Welding Engineering is the science of holding things together. Beyond just holding materials together, welding Engineering encompasses almost every aspect of construction: from the actual development and shaping of the material, to the creation of new methods of keeping things from failing apart.
Welding is a critical manufacturing process that has been estimated to impact over 50 percent of the products manufactured in India. While most may think welding in terms of a process, it is actually a complex Engineering discipline that involves aspects of materials science, design, inspection, mechanical and electronic systems, lasers, and robots. Welding is integral to the manufacture of a wide range of products, from high power laser welding of large ships, to micro joining of thin wires to circuit boards. The application of welding and joining continues to expand; in the oil, gas and petrochemical industries; in transport, including automotive, aerospace and shipbuilding; in manufacture of electronic systems; in defence industries; and in general manufacturing.
The postgraduate study in welding engineering addresses these needs and covers a wide range of areas that are part of modern welding Technology such as automation, metallurgy and materials science, welding processes, design, and quality. It provides students with a fundamental understanding of welding technologies and awareness about the recent technical developments within the relevant industries.
National Institute of Technology, Trichy offers M. Tech in Welding Engineering.
