It is important for aspiring networking professionals to have skill sets on multiple operating systems, e.g. it would not be sufficient for a professional to learn or master Windows 2000. It is best to undergo professional training on at least one more Technology i.e. Solaris or Linux. Once the networking concepts and the Technology is clear, one can look at mastering WAN concepts and pick up routing and switching technologies i.e. professional courses from Cisco.
In order to enhance their marketability and growth potential, it is important that the students are vendor certified on their respective technologies. This would also cut down their entry barriers substantially. Global certifications viz. MCSE, SCSA, CCNA, LPI etc. are most sought after by the industry.
