Applications are invited from eligible applicants for admission to the following academic programmes for the year 2005-2006. Academic admissions are based on Common Admission Test (CAT) / Departmental Admission Test (DAT) / Test for Lateral Entry and all applicants intending to apply for any of the academic programmes are required to submit their applications to the University. Applicants who have appeared / are appearing for their final qualifying examinations are also eligible to apply. Degrees obtained through distance education programmes other than through IGNOU are not recognized by the regulations of the University in force. The CAT will be conducted on 21st & 22nd of May, 2005 with centres at all district head quarters in Kerala. The DATs are conducted at Kochi by the individual Departments/Schools of the University on dates to be announced later.

The University reserves the right to cancel any or all the notified Test-Centres for administrative reasons.

Application forms for all programmes listed hereunder are supplied along with the Academic Hand Book (AHB) and can be obtained as indicated at 5 below.

1. Admissions through CAT

Applicants for the following programmes are required to take the CAT, except where specifically indicated otherwise :

1.1 FIRST DEGREE PROGRAMMES

a. B.Tech. in Civil Engineering**, Computer Science & Engineering**, Electrical & Electronics Engineering**, Electronics & Communication Engineering**, Information Technology**, Mechanical Engineering**, Safety & Fire Engineering**.
b. B.Tech. in Polymer Science & Rubber Technology
c. Five Year Integrated M.Sc. in Photonics
Pass in Plus Two Examination of the State of Kerala with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as optional subjects or any other examination accepted as equivalent thereto securing a minimum of 50% marks in Mathematics and 50% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together.
d. B.Tech. in Instrumentation
Pass in Plus Two examination of the State of Kerala with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as optional subjects or any other examination accepted as equivalent thereto securing a minimum of 60% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together, with at least 55% in Mathematics separately.
e. B.Tech. in Marine Engineering. ** (Residential Programme)
Pass in Plus Two or equivalent examination with physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English as separate subjects with a PCM average of not less than 60% marks and should have obtained 50% marks in English at 10th and 12th standards.
f. B.Tech. in Naval Architecture & Ship Building.
Pass in Plus Two examination of the State of Kerala or any other examination accepted as equivalent thereto with a First Class securing a minimum of 50% marks in Mathematics as well as for Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together.

1.2 SECOND DEGREE PROGRAMME

Bachelor's degree in any discipline with 40% of the total marks of the qualifying degree.

1.3 POST GRADUATE PROGRAMMES

Bachelor's degree in Law with at least 45% marks.
M.A. Hindi Language and Literature
B.A./B.Sc. degree with Hindi as a subject of study with at least 45% marks in Hindi.
M.B.A. (Full-time / Part-time) offered by CUSAT and its recognized institutions.
A degree in any subject with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate.
M.B.E. (Master of Business Economics)
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in any subject including Engineering, Technology, Agriculture and Medicine with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks.
M.C.A.*** offered by CUSAT and its recognized institutions.
Any graduate with Mathematics as one of the main or subsidiary subjects or graduate in Electronics/Computer Science/Computer Applications/Engineering/Technology with aggregate 55% marks in all subjects other than Languages and Humanities.
M.I.B. (Master of International Business)
A degree in any subject with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate.
M.Sc. Applied Chemistry
B.Sc. degree with Chemistry/Polymer Chemistry/Environmental Chemistry/Industrial Chemistry/Petrochemicals as main, with Mathematics as one of the subsidiary subjects with at least 55% marks in the main subject.
M.Sc. Biotechnology
Bachelor's degree in any branch of Life Sciences including Agricultural and Medical Science or Chemical Science or Chemical Engineering with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate.
M.Sc. Electronic Science
First class B.Sc. / B.Sc. (Hons..) degree with not less than 60% aggregate marks in Electronics, Computer Science, or Physics (with Electronics). Candidates with higher degrees are not eligible for admission.
M.Sc. Environmental Technology
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry with Physics and Mathematics as subsidiaries, or Engineering (Civil/Public Health/Environmental or Chemical) or Life Sciences or Environmental Sciences or Zoology or Botany or Microbiology with at least 55% marks in the optional subjects.
M.Sc. Hydrochemistry
B.Sc. degree with Chemistry as the main subject and Physics and Mathematics as subsidiaries with 55% marks in Chemistry or B.Sc. degree of any University in Kerala with Polymer Chemistry/Industrial Chemistry/Petro Chemicals/Environment & Water Management as the main subject and Mathematics and Physics/Computer Science, as subsidiaries with 55% marks in the main subject.
M.Sc. Industrial Fisheries
Bachelor's degree in Zoology/Botany/Fisheries /Chemistry main with Zoology and Botany as subsidiaries with at least 55% marks in the optional subjects. Bachelor's degree in Fisheries includes bachelor's degree in Industrial Fisheries, Aquaculture and Fishery Science
M.Sc. Marine Biology
B.Sc. degree with any branch of Life Sciences such as Aquaculture, Bio-chemistry, Biotechnology, Botany, Microbiology and Zoology as a main subject or B.Sc. degree in Fisheries Science with atleast 55% marks in the optional subjects.
M.Sc. Marine Geology
Bachelor's degree in Geology with at least 55% aggregate marks for optionals.
M.Sc. Marine Geophysics
B.Sc. degree with at least 55% aggregate marks in Geology (main) with Mathematics and Physics or Chemistry as subsidiaries / Physics (main) with Mathematics and Geology or Chemistry or Electronics as subsidiaries / Mathematics (main) with Physics and Geology or Chemistry as subsidiaries. Should not have completed 22 years of age as on 1st October 2005 except in the case of SC/ST candidates.
M.Sc. Mathematics
B.Sc. degree with Mathematics main, with at least 55% marks for optional subjects taken together.
M.Sc. Meteorology
B.Sc. degree with Physics/Mathematics as the main subject with 55% marks. Those with Mathematics as the main subject should have studied Physics as one of the subsidiary subjects and vice-versa.
M.Sc. Oceanography
B.Sc. degree with Physics/Mathematics as the main subject with 55% marks. Those with Mathematics as the main subject should have studied Physics as one of the subsidiary subjects and vice-versa.
M.Sc. OR & CA
B.Sc. degree in Mathematics or Physics or Statistics with Mathematics as subsidiary with not less than 55% marks in the main or subsidiary subjects or B.Sc. Engineering with at least 55% marks.
M.Sc. Physics
B.Sc. degree with Physics main and Mathematics as subsidiary with at least 55% marks in Physics.
M.Sc. Statistics
B.Sc. degree in Mathematics or Statistics with atleast 55% marks for optional subjects taken together.

2. M. Tech. PROGRAMMES

Admissions to the following M.Tech. programmes are based on valid GATE score as prescribed under the academic regulations specific to each programme. Candidates not possessing GATE may also apply, but will be considered only if GATE qualified are not available. In such cases, admissions will be based on the DAT.

M.Tech. Atmospheric Science
1. M.Sc. degree or its equivalent in Meteorology, Oceanography, Mathematics, Physics, Space Physics with a First Class (60%) marks from any recognized University or Institution. 2. A valid GATE score.
M.Tech. Computer Aided Structural Analysis & Design
1. B.Tech or Equivalent degree in Naval Architecture and Ship building/Civil Engineering/Mechanical Engineering with a first class (60%) marks from any recognized university or institution 2. A valid GATE score.
M.Tech. Computer & Information Science
1. B.Tech or equivalent degree in any discipline/AMIETE/AMIE or M.Sc. in Physics with Electronics as special subject, or in M.Sc. Mathematics with a first class (60%) marks from any recognized university or institution. 2. A valid GATE score.
M.Tech. Electronics
1. B.Tech or equivalent degree/AMIE/AMIETE in Electronics and Communication Engineering/Electrical Engineering/Electronics and Instrumentation or M.Sc. degree in Electronics/Physics (with Electronics as specialization) with a first class (60%) marks from any recognized university or Institution. 2. A valid GATE score.
M.Tech. Industrial Catalysis
1. M.Sc. degree in Chemistry/Applied Chemistry or any other degree recognized as equivalent with at least a first class (60%) marks from any recognized university or institution. 2. A valid Gate Score.
M.Tech. Ocean Technology
1. M.Sc. degree in Oceanography/Physics/Marine Geology/Meteorology/Marine Geophysics/Environmental Sciences or M.Sc (Tech) degree in Marine Geophysics or B.Tech. or equivalent degree /AMIE in Civil Engineering/Environmental Sciences with 60% marks from any recognized University or institution. 2. A valid GATE score.
M.Tech. Opto-Electronics & Laser Technology
1. Masters degree in Physics/Electronics or B.Tech. or equivalent degree/AMIE/AMIETE in Electronics and Communication Engineering/Electronics Engineering/Electrical Engineering with a First Class (60%) from any recognized University or Institution 2. A valid GATE score.
M.Tech. Polymer Technology
1. B.Tech. or equivalent degree/AMIE in Polymer Science and Rubber Technology/Chemical Engineering /Technology or M.Sc. Polymer Chemistry/M.Sc. Chemistry with Polymer Chemistry specialization with a first class (60%) marks from any recognized university or institution. 2. A valid GATE score.
M.Tech. Software Engineering
1. B.Tech or equivalent degree or AMIE/AMIETE in Computer Science/Information Technology or M.Sc. in Computer Software/Operations Research & Computer Applications or MCA with a first class (60%) marks from any recognized university or institution. 2. A valid GATE score.
M.Tech. Civil/Chemical/Mechanical Engineering (Part-time)
1. B.Tech/B.Sc.(Engg.) or equivalent degree in the respective branch (candidates who have taken AMIE with a pass in section A & B are also eligible for admission) 2.Should have a basic degree in Science or diploma in Engg. Such candidates shall be required to undergo a make-up course in laboratory work before being admitted to the M.Tech Degree. This shall consist of two practical course and only those candidates who secure not less than 50% marks in the examination conducted by the department for each of the two practical courses shall be eligible for the M.Tech. programmes 3. Should have two years experience after obtaining the basic degree: AMIE should have seven years experience. 4. Open seats will be allotted on the basis of Gate Score and marks obtained in the qualifying examination.

3. Admissions through DAT

Applicants for the following programmes are required to take the DAT:

3.1 POST GRADUATE PROGRAMME

M.A. Translation (German/Russian)
Bachelor's degree of any recognized University and knowledge of the language concerned upto Diploma level.
3.2 DIPLOMA/CERTIFICATE PROGRAMMES (PART-TIME)
a. Certificate courses in French/German/Japanese/Russian.
b. Diploma in Functional Arabic
c. Integrated Diploma in French/German/Japanese/ Russian
Pass in Plus-two or equivalent. Previous knowledge in the language concerned is not essential.
d. Diploma in French/German/Japanese/ Russian
Pass in Plus-two or equivalent and certificate level knowledge in the language concerned.
e. P.G. Diploma in Communicative English
Bachelors Degree in any discipline or equivalent recognized by the University with English as one of the subjects of study.
f. P.G. Diploma in Translation and Functional Hindi
Bachelor's degree with Hindi as one of the subjects
3.3 DIPLOMA PROGRAMME (FULL-TIME)

P.G. Diploma in Coastal zone Management.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Master's degree in Science from any university recognized by CUSAT with atleast 55% marks.

3.4 M.Phil. PROGRAMMES (Full-time)

M.Phil. Chemistry, Commerce, Hindi and Physics
Master's degree in the concerned subject with at least 50% marks.
M.Phil. Applied Economics,
Master's degree in Economics with at least 50% aggregate marks.
M.Phil. Chemical Oceanography
Master's degree in Chemistry with 50% marks.
M.Phil. Life Sciences
Master's degree in Marine Biology/Zoology/ any branch of Life sciences such as Aquatic Biology and Fisheries, Bio Chemistry, Biotechnology, Botany, Fishery science with 60% marks.
M.Phil. Photonics
M.Sc. degree with 55% marks in Physics/Electronic Science

3.5 M.E By Research : (Full-time and Part-time)

Bachelor's degree in appropriate branch of Engineering from a recognized University with 60% marks in the qualifying examination and with 50% marks in the DAT.

3.6 Ph.D PROGRAMMES

Ph.D programmes are offered in all the teaching Departments/Schools and recognized Institutions of the University. Candidates are advised to ascertain the areas of research and the availability of vacancies from the Departments/Schools or Recognized Institutions before-hand. Candidates intending to do research in the Recognized Institutions of the University are to obtain application forms from the University Departments/Schools dealing with the discipline of their choice.

The University Departments/Schools located at the Lake Side Campus at Fine Arts Avenue, Kochi-682 016 are Atmospheric Sciences, Chemical Oceanography, Industrial Fisheries, Marine Biology, Microbiology & Biochemistry, Marine Geology & Geophysics and Physical Oceanography.

4. Lateral Entry TO B.Tech. PROGRAMMES

Admissions to the III Semester B.Tech. Engineering programmes through Lateral Entry Scheme are based on a separate Test to be conducted at Kochi on a date to be announced later.

Diploma recognized by the Boards of Technical Education of the States after undergoing a regular course of 3 years duration with not less than 60% marks.
2. The maximum age prescribed is 25 years as on 1st July 2005.
