Conduct of National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA)
The National Institute of Advanced Studies in Architecture (NIASA), Pune, an Academic Unit of the Council of Architecture (CoA), is conducting a National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) for admission to first year of 5-year Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch.) degree course for all architectural institutions in the country, including NITs, IITs, Government Institutions, Government-aided Institutions, Universities, Deemed Universities and Private Universities, established by a Central or State Legislature and other private institutions, for the Academic Session 2007-2008. it shall be mandatory for every architectural Institution imparting 5-year B. Arch. Degree course in the country to join the NATA and to admit students on the basis of valid NATA marks in the said course.
The CoA is the final authority in India as far as regulating architectural education and architectural profession is connected. Candidates, who are not admitted on the basis of valid NATA marks, will not be considered for registration as an “Architect” under the Architects Act, 1972 with the CoA irrespective of their obtaining a B. Arch. Degree. Registration as an “Architect” with the CoA is mandatory for pursuing the profession of architecture and employment in Central/State Governments Services in the country.
Eligibility Criteria:
The minimum academic qualification for admission to first year of 5-year B. Arch. Course through NATA is as follows:
10+2 or equivalent from a recognized Board/University with Mathematics as a subject of examination with at least 50% aggregate marks.
NATA shall be conducted at various designated Test Centers in CoA approved architectural institutions in the country on all working days starting from Marcg1, 2007. The registration for NATA at the respective Test Centers shall begin from February 15, 2007. The admissions shall be carried out by the State Govt. /Competent Authority/ Association of Architectural Institutions in the State, bases on the marks obtained in NATA and the qualifying examinations as mentioned above in the ratio of 50 : 50.
After the conduct of NATA, all architectural institutions in the country shall be required to submit a list is students admitted in the B. Arch degree course, mentioning the total NATA score and total marks in qualifying examination, to the Council.

Conduct of National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA)
In continuation of Council’s Admission Notice dated 29.12.2006 regarding conduct of National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) by National Institute of Advanced Studies in Architecture (NIASA), Pune, an Academic Unit of the Council of Architecture, for admission to first year of 5-year Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch) degree course for academic session 2007-2008, it is once again informed to all concerned that only those candidates, who have appeared and qualified the NATA, shall be eligible for admission to architectural institutions imparting 5-year B. Arch degree course in the country. The candidates, who have not been admitted on the basis of valid NATA marks, shall not be considered for registration as an “Architect” under the Architects Act, 1972 with the Council, irrespective of their obtaining B. Arch degree as it is only the Council of Architecture which is empowered under the Architects Act, 1972 to grant the Council is mandatory to pursue the profession of an architect; seek employment in Central/ State Governments and take up teaching assignments in the country.
Further, every architectural institution imparting 5-year degree course in the country shall be required to admit students on the basis of valid NATA marks, in the said course. After the conduct of NATA, all architectural institutions in the country shall be required to submit a list of students admitted in the B. Arch degree course, mentioning the total NATA score and total marks in qualifying examination, to the Council.
All the prospective students seeking to pursue undergraduate course in architecture, are therefore advised in their own interest, to appear in the NATA test being conducted by the Council of Architecture to avoid any inconvenience in future.
