The National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD) is a premier National Center of excellence in rural development. Recognized internationally as one of the UN^ESCAP Centers Df Exeeilc, HRD, it buifds capacities of the rural development officials, elected representatives, academicians and young students through interrelated activities of training, research, teaching and consultancy. The NIRD has its own link institutions i.e., State Institute of Rural Development and Extension Training Centers. The Institute has excellent training and teaching infrastructure and functional networks with National Organizations.
The University of Hyderabad (UoH), a Central University is a premier institution of f osi-Graduate teaching and research in the Country accorded with the status of "University with Potential for excellence" by the University Grant Commission, The National Accreditation and assessment Council (NAAC) have accorded the University the top rating of "Five Stars", Tine University is a member of the International Council for Distance Education and its courses arc recognized by Distance Education Council of India.
About the Programme; Distance Education Cell (DEC) of NIRD and Centre for Distance Education of University of Hyderabad (UoH) are jointly launching a one year distance education Prog. in Sustainable Rural Development which covers both Academic & Practical components. It will be offered in two semesters with 35 credits. The courses will be on sustainable rural development, methods and techniques, policies and programmes, resources and livelihoods, stakeholder.-, and appropriate technologies and practices for sustainable development. Formulation, execution and implementation of projects will be guided by counselors in each semester for practical orientation. The course structure is designed by experts which will be immensely beneficial to the young students for their career prospects in the fast emerging socio-economic development sector, NGOs, Con and rural development/agriculture sector. The programme wiil alsc be useful for serving officials of public and private sector for boosting their career prospects. The PG Diploma will be jointly awarded by the UoH and NIRD. Eligibility: A Graduate degree in any discipline from a recognised university.
Duration: Minimum 1 year, Maximum 3 years; Medium of Instruction: English
Programme Fee: Rs. 17000 (Rs.15000 for SC/ST/PH) to be deposited in two equal installments at the time of commencement of each semester. For sponsored candidates, full fee will have- to be deposited at the time of admission.
How to apply: The application form and Information Brochure can be had from Programme Co-ordinator, PGD-SRD, Distance Education Celt, NIRD, Rajo.-,ti:„..,.•,,„, Hyderabad-500030 in person on payment of Rs 500 (Rs. 300/- for SC/ST/FH candidates) through a Demand Draft in favour of "National Institute of Rural Development'' payable at Hyderabad. Request for Application form by post should reach along with self r.ddrc^cd stamped (Rs,10) envelope of size 12" x 10" by November 20, 2009. It can also be downloaded from NIRD's website www.nird.org.in. The application should be enclosed along with Draft of Rs.510/- (Rs.310/- for SC/ST /PH).
