NASA Space Settlement Contest

This annual contest, co-sponsored by NASA Ames and the National Space Society (NSS) is for all students up to 12th grade (18 years old) from anywhere in the world. Individuals, small teams of two to six, and large teams of seven or more are judged separately. Entries are also grouped by age/grade of the oldest contestant for judging. The age groups are 7th and under, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th. The grand prize is awarded to the best entry regarless of contestant age. Students develop space settlement designs and related materials.

These are sent to NASA Ames for judgement. Submissions must be received by March 15.


Send a hard copy of your entry and two hard copies of a filled out entry form (one attached to your entry and the other separate) to:

Entries must arrive by March 15, 2013.

NOTE: we do not send verification that entries have been received. Please don't ask for one. If you want to know if the entry has arrived, use a service that requires a signature.

WARNING: do not send your entry by registered mail and do not require a signature. This delays delivery and makes it more likely your entry will be lost. If you do use registered mail or require a signature, send your entry at least one month early to allow for delays.

Teachers using the contest in their class should submit all projects together. Note: electronic submission is not allowed, only hard copy.
