Teaching Professionals' Olympiad 2016

CENTA Teaching Professionals' Olympiad (TPO) 2016

CENTA Teaching Professionals' Olympiad or TPO is a first-of-its-kind national competition to reward, recognize and celebrate teachers. It is also the first step towards the CENTA Certificates, which aim to create a career pathway for the teaching profession and serve as a pointer for schools and organizations in their teacher recruiting, retention and development efforts. Given the tremendous response from India's teaching community last year - more than 5000 registrations in the very first year - TPO has now become an annual initiative. Winners of last year have experienced not only the announced rewards from the initiative, but also recognition in their own schools and systems in many cases.

TPO 2016 is being held on 3rdDecember (Saturday), in 22 cities across the country, with 11 subject tracks to choose from, plus two additional 'Challenger' tracks. One of the tracks (Primary) is also available in Hindi medium this time. Once again, in a few short weeks, registrations have already come in from 25 States and 250+ cities/towns/villages, with teachers signing up to travel long distances to one of the test centre cities. Registrants range from new to highly experienced teachers and even principals and school owners, from schools and organizations of all kinds. Several teaching aspirants, not yet teachers, have also signed up.

TPO is an objective multiple choice test, and is still highly practice-oriented through innovative situation response questions. Primary partners to TPO 2016 are The Hindu (media group) and Michael and Susan Dell Foundation, and additional partners are HT Parekh Foundation, Varkey Foundation and Central Square Foundation. Prizes from the sponsors are even more in number than last year and include: 13 winners to be invited and sponsored to attend the Global Education & Skills Forum; all State Toppers to be profiled in The Hindu group of publications; 50 winners to receive cash awards including Rs. 1 lakh for each of three winners; several winners to be invited to co-author a book to be published by Central Square Foundation; 500 winners to get TPO certificates, and so on. Further, each participant receives a confidential personal report of his/her competencies available ONLY to him/her. Any school with 10 or more teachers participating will receive a report on overall strength areas and development areas of teachers, without individual teacher names - which we hope can help in the school's professional development efforts. TPO registration involves a nominal fee of Rs. 450 (inclusive of service tax and other charges); participants of course need to take care of their own travel to centres, etc.

It would be wonderful to see several teachers from your school/organization participating in this unique opportunity. Please reach out to TPO-Helpdesk@centa.org for any clarifications and please register on www.tpo-india.org . Registration closes on October 31st.
