Translational Health Science and Technology Institute - Young Investigator Award


Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI) invites applications for the Young Investigator Award in the Maternal and Child Health area.

The award will nurture young investigators who have a strong aptitude towards research and a desire to grow into independent principal investigators. The awardees will be expected to generate new hypothesis driven innovative research ideas in the area of maternal and child health and learn to drive a research process. The mandate will be to bridge epidemiology and biomedical research to develop robust interventions and solutions for maternal and child health. Extensive opportunities will be provided to learn big-data management, clinical research methodology and lab research methods. There will be mentoring by domain experts.

THSTI has established long standing collaborations with the nearby district hospital at Gurgaon and effective inter-institutional alliances with other medical, engineering, biology centers across the country & overseas. The research process initiated by the awardee will be facilitated through these collaborations.

Ideas generated by the awardees that crystalize into specific projects will be credited in the form of somefundingsupport, publications and other credits as decided by the institution.

The awardees are expected to develop a letter of intent followed by development of full proposal and implementation of the proposal over the course of the award period. Mentorship will be provided to facilitate the process.

Applications are invited from candidates holding MD and/or Ph.D (life sciences/ Biomedical Engineering) with relevant research publications. The award is for a period of two years with emolument of Rs. 75,000 per month.

The Letter of Intent (LOI) should explicitly identify how the proposed work would translate into a measurable benefit in maternal and child health area over the next five years. Applications that propose purely biological work where no connections to clinical or public health utility are provided will not be entertained. The LOI should propose a research question and should have a title, an abstract of not more than 250 words followed by 1. Background 2. Rationale 3. Hypothesis 4. Study Design 5. Outcome of the proposed research. Please include PICOT (population, intervention, comparison, outcome, time) wherever applicable. The LOI should not be more than 3 pages.

The shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview/interaction session. The awardees will be selected based on their academic performance, the LOIs and their interview performance.

Call for Application will remain open till suitable candidates are found. Applications received till 19th August 2016 will go through the selection process till November 2016. The applications received till the end of the subsequent months will be taken through a next round of selection process spanning three months.
