About CIHE

Established in 1985, Caritas Institute of Higher Education (CIHE) is a young tertiary institution in Hong Kong. At present, it offers bachelor’s degree and higher diploma programmes in various disciplines, including accounting studies, corporate management, marketing and event management, hotel management, information systems, bilingual studies, Chinese and philosophy, English and communication, digital entertainment, community studies, psychology, social work, health sciences, nursing and early childhood education. With its new campus started to operate in 2017, teaching and learning experiences of teachers and students have been brought to a whole new level. In the years to come, CIHE will soon morph into Hong Kong’s first private Catholic university, Saint Francis University. CIHE will continue to strengthen its academic
structure and rigor while diversifying its academic provision to embrace a wider portfolio of bachelor’s degree and post-graduate degree programmes in a wider range of disciplines.

The CIHE Scholarship Programme

Wanna study in Hong Kong?

If coming to Hong Kong to complete your degree and possibly getting a job after you graduate is something that you have been dreaming for years, then the CIHE Scholarship Programme is definitely for you.

Isn’t it expensive to study in Hong Kong?

It is but not if you apply for the CIHE Scholarship. With this scholarship, CIHE waives up to 90% of the annual tuition costs and hence ANNUAL TUITION is as low as HK$10,000 (~ US$1,275 or 90% off ) to a maximum of just HK$30,000 (~US$3,825 or 65% off).

How many scholarship slots do you offer?

We are only offering 20 slots for Grade 1 Scholarship, i.e. HK$10,000 per year tuition, and 30 for Grade 2 Scholarship, i.e. HK$30,000 per year for the tuition.

What about living and transportation?

CIHE’s official 2-person dormitory rent is about HK$4,000 (~ US$500) per head but, of course, if you apply and come in a group you can also share other places together (say among 6 friends) to further lower the living costs. Wyith Institute will assist students to look for nearby rooms in this case. the Transportation costs should be around HK$500 (~US$60) per month.

Are CIHE qualifications recognized?

Of course! All CIHE programmes have been validated by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ), which means both the academic qualification and its status are recognized by the Hong Kong Government.

Can I study part-time?

No. The CIHE Scholarship is only available for non-local students studying at CIHE in full-time mode.

Can I work part-time as well?

Only BA and BBA students are allowed 20 hours per week of on-campus employment during the semester or full-time work during summer, i.e. June 1 to August 31. HD(Design) students, however, are not allowed to work full-time as per government regulations. Study related internships, if approved by CIHE, are allowed.

What is the wage level in Hong Kong?

Statutory Minimum Wage (SMW) has come into force since May 1, 2011 for people working in Hong Kong. With effect from May 1, 2017, the SMW rate is HK$34.50 (US$4.45) per hour.

Application deadline is approaching but I have no passport? How can I apply?

We do understand that not everyone has a passport so if you expect to arrive in Hong Kong late, you can still apply now and start in the second semester and we will provide you with make-up classes during the summer semester so that you can catch up with the rest of the class before moving onto the second year. No one is ever left behind at CIHE. That’s for sure!

Can I stay and work here after graduation?

Of course! Non-local students who have obtained a bachelor’s degree conferred by CIHE are eligible to apply to stay/return and work in Hong Kong in accordance with the “Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates (IANG)”. You can even choose to stay here and become a citizen too if you work or study for a total of seven (7) years!
