Inviting applications for one-year Postgraduate Diploma Course

MASCOM, launched by the legendary 129-year-old Malayala Manorama group on August 17, 2002, is an acknowledged centre of excellence for journalism training in India. The courses at MASCOM introduce students to the world of cutting-edge journalism, where they gain proficiency in print or broadcast journalism through the meticulously designed training modules.

During the courses, students are sensitised to the evolving developments in the field of electronic and print media. They gather hands-on experience while undertaking overnight news-gathering field-trips and interviewing leading academic, political and media personalities. The print students bring out at least 30 issues of their weekly lab newspaper and acquire advanced skills in reporting, editing and computer software. The broadcast students put together more than 40 lab news bulletins and acquire the reporting, camera, video editing and production skills required for electronic media.

Along with state-of-the-art technology and other communication systems employed at Malayala Manorama, MASCOM has an expert faculty with national and international work experience which makes the courses on par with international standards. The students are provided with personal computers, with 24-hour dedicated internet connectivity and a telephone with STD facility for newsgathering. Broadcast students have access to professional studio and equipment for producing news bulletins.

Candidates with a bachelor's degree in any discipline and those awaiting degree results may apply. Selection is based on an entrance examination to be held on May 27 in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore and various centres in Kerala, followed by an interview at MASCOM in July.

The medium of instruction at MASCOM is English, but students are free to choose between English and Malayalam streams for specialisation. For students aspiring to a career in English or Malayalam journalism, MASCOM training will give them a headstart in the profession.

MASCOM will help provide admitted students with comfortable, furnished quarters and the MASCOM canteen offers meals at subsidised rates.
