National BioScience Award For Career Development 2006-2007

The Department Of Biotechnology (DBT) invites nominations of scientists who are currently engaged in basic and applied research in biosciences & biotechnology including biological, agricultural, medical and environmental sciences and have made outstanding contributions in research with potential for application / product and technology development.

The programme is being implemented through BCIL. Nominations for the national Bioscience Award for Career Development neatly typed on plain paper in proforma I ( 5 copies) complete with enclosures , two latest photographs with negative, and a summary of achievements as per proforma II ( 12 copies) should be sent to the Executive Director and CEO ( Attn : Dr.Purnima Sharma ) Biotech Consortium India Limited. 5th Floor Anuvrat Bhawan 210 Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg, New Delhi - 110002 so as to reach on or before 15th November, 2006 Proforma I & II may be downloaded from the BCIL website : A Copy may also be sent by email at . The details of the scheme are as under:

(A) The Award:

Each award will carry a cash amount odf Rs.One lakh, a citation adn a research grant of Rs. 3.00 lakhs per year for 3 years. Upto 10 such awards, subject to the availability of suitable nominations will be gibven every year.

(B) Who should be nominated ?

The candidates must be a citizen of India and actively working in the field of biosciences and biotechnology in the country. He /She must be below 45 years of age as on 31st December 2005.

(C) Who can nominate ?

The following category of persons / organizations can nominate scientists for the National Bioscience Awards for Career Development ; Members of the Scientific Advisory Committee - DBT ; Standing Advisory Committee ( Overseas) - DBT; Vice Chancellors / Directors of Univesities / deemed Universities; Chairman , UGC ; Director General of agencies such as CSIR Laboratories etc., Presidents of Scientific Socities and Academies / User Ministries ( e.g. DBT , DST, DSIR, DOD, Ministry of Environment & Forest , Non- conventional Energy Sources , Atomic Energy , Space , Commerce, Industry, Ministry of Health And Family Welfare, Human Resource Development , etc., and Member ( Science ) Planning Comission.

Nominations from individuals sponsoring their own names will not be considered.

(D) How are the awardees selected?

The selection of candidates for the award would be based purely on scientific excellence, on the recommendation of an Expert Committee consituted for this purpose by the Department of Biotechnology. The Contribution made by the nominee through his / her work done in India, especially during the last 5 years will be a major consideration in the selection for the award. he nominations should include a brief project proposal for future research along with bio-data.

The nominations will be valid for consideration of the award for a period of three consecutive years or till the candidate attains the age of 45 years, whichever is easier. However, only those nominations recommended by the Expert Committee will be eligible for such consideration.

(E) Presentation of the Awards

Only selected candidates would be informed. The awards will be presented to the selected scientists at a formal function, organized by the DBT.
