About Graduate Record Examination (GRE)

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is a standardized test that measures the readiness of individuals for graduate and business school programs. It is widely accepted by universities and colleges worldwide as part of the admissions process for various master’s and doctoral degree programs.

Here are some key points about the GRE examination:

Test Types: The GRE offers two main types of tests: the GRE General Test and the GRE Subject Tests. The GRE General Test assesses verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and analytical writing skills. The GRE Subject Tests measure knowledge in specific subject areas, such as Biology, Chemistry, Literature in English, Mathematics, Physics, and Psychology.

Test Format: The GRE General Test consists of three sections. The Verbal Reasoning section assesses reading comprehension, critical reasoning, and vocabulary skills. The Quantitative Reasoning section evaluates mathematical problem-solving and data interpretation skills. The Analytical Writing section requires test-takers to write essays analyzing an issue and an argument.

Scoring System: The GRE General Test uses a scoring scale of 130 to 170 for the Verbal and Quantitative Reasoning sections, with 1-point increments. The Analytical Writing section is scored on a scale of 0 to 6, in half-point increments. The GRE Subject Tests are scored on a scale of 200 to 990.

Test Validity: GRE scores are typically valid for five years from the test date. After the five-year period, some institutions may require applicants to retake the test to ensure their scores reflect their current abilities.

Test Preparation: Numerous study materials, including practice books, online resources, and courses, are available to help candidates prepare for the GRE. It is recommended to familiarize yourself with the test format, practice with sample questions, and develop effective test-taking strategies.

Test Registration: To take the GRE, you need to create an account on the official GRE website and register for a test date. You can choose a test center and pay the required fee during the registration process. Additionally, you can select up to four recipient institutions to send your scores directly.

It’s important to note that specific test requirements and policies may vary depending on the graduate programs and institutions you are applying to. It is advisable to check the official GRE website or contact the respective schools or organizations for the most up-to-date information regarding the examination.
