About IPTIF Oorja Grand Challenge 2022

The grand challenges envisions enabling large scale skill development in design aspects of multidisciplinary systems related to the energy domain. Undergoing such a challenge will also form/enable teams who can lead fundamental research, product development, industry development and job creation for the Indian and global energy sector. This will make India a forerunner in the solutions to mitigate climate change.

Overview:

As the world heads towards a lesser carbon emissions goal, we have to introspect to what extent fossil fuels are the primary energy source. Vehicles for transporting humans and goods are perhaps the most visible and spoken about topics, and this is being addressed by electric vehicle technologies. The impact of fossil fuel requirements in material mining, material processing, etc. is not very straightforward to visualize. While attempting to move from internal combustion engines to electric vehicles, we may inadvertently end up selecting a solution that may rely on heavy amounts of mining and material processing. Since the problem is so vast, we broadly break it down into the following verticals:

Energy storage technologies

> Energy generation technologies
> Energy conversion technologies
> Energy transportation/distribution technologies
> Energy conservation
