About Naming Contest for India Data Management Office (IDMO)

Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (Meity) has initiated a National Program on AI and one of the components of the program is setting up the “India Data Management Office (IDMO)”. The proposed IDMO aims to improve access, quality, and use of public sector data to catalyze data-driven governance, decision-making and create an ecosystem for data-based Innovation and research.

The primary objectives envisioned for IDMO are the following:

Data Governance: Designing data standards, data quality metrics, and associated tools and frameworks to leverage data for innovation and institute mechanisms for data sharing and access that can enable an ecosystem of data-driven governance, research, and innovation. It will enable and build the India Datasets Platform that will process requests and provide access to non- personal and anonymized datasets to Indian / India-based AI- and Data-led researchers and Startups.

Building Data Capacity: To build and augment the capacity of data functionaries within government entities working on data consolidation, management, and sharing activities through sensitization and training.

MeitY is looking for a creative name that is unique, memorable, and reflects the office’s objectives and goals.In this context, MeitY in collaboration with MyGov is organizing a contest for 4 weeks on MyGov platform to find a suitable name for the Data Management Office (DMO) envisioned in the National Program on AI.

The entries received through the contest will have the proposed name and a brief explanation of why contestants think it is a good fit for the data management office.
