About RoPlastic Prize 2023

Rossana Orlandi and Nicoletta Orlandi Brugnoni launch the 2023 edition of RoPlastic Prize, the worldwide challenge of RoGUILTLESSPLASTIC, a project to raise awareness about re-Waste and to inspire the international creative community to design more responsibly by creating works with reused, recycled and up-cycled plastic.

The selected finalist projects will be on exhibit during the Milano Design Week from 17 to 23 April 2023. The International Jury, comprising established names in different area, will select the winner in each category. The Winner for each category will be receiving during the Award Ceremony – date to be confirmed during Milano Design Week – an award of 10,000 Euros and a commitment to advance research and the implementation of the candidate’s project.

The RoPlastic Prize 2023 categories are as follows:

Art and Collectible Design

Established and non-established artists and designers are encouraged to enter artworks, collectible design pieces, limited editions or unique one-off designs that utilise and maximise the various possibilities for reusing, recycling and/or up-cycling plastic. An essential aspect is that these works are able to harness interest within the world of international collecting and the art market. Accepted submissions (both indoor and outdoor) include installations, videos, photographs, NFTs, sculptures and performances without any restrictions.

Emerging High Technology

Researchers, students, universities, companies and industries are asked to submit new and emerging innovative research and/or industrial projects, based on a proactive approach to Waste that features significant high-tech performance and contemplates the reuse of production waste, the reduction of emissions into the environment and climate-friendly solutions that can increase the resilience of ecosystems by adapting lifestyles to new climate changes. The intent is to integrate technology and design to reduce energy use while maximising personal comfort, also focusing on buildings, streets and public spaces.

Inspiring Learning Projects

Inviting entries with projects in any medium, designed both to raise awareness of the emerging professional needs arising from the circular economy and to motivate, stimulate and inspire new generations of students to choose these new technical and professional paths.

For this fifth edition, the RoPlastic Prize, the international challenge open to everyone, no matter what age or professional background, launches three new categories. Conceived and founded by Rossana Orlandi and her daughter Nicoletta Orlandi Brugnoni, the project starts from their conviction that Plastic is not guilty. Its abuse and misuse has nonetheless created one of the most pressing environmental issues plaguing the Planet Earth today. RoGUITLESSPLASTIC, fuelled by its continued international success and a large number of participants in its award, has, year after year, raised its objectives by expanding its target audience.
