The Centre for Economic and Social Studies (CESS) was established as an autonomous body registered under the Societies Act in the year 1980, by the State Government. Appreciating its role in the promotion of research and training, the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) recognized it as a national institute in the year 1986 and included CESS in its network of institutions for annual grant. The Centre has been receiving maintenance grants from the State Government and the ICSSR and project –specific grants/consultancies from the state government, central government, Planning Commission, Asian Development Bank, World Bank, IRC, Netherlands, TATA Trust, UNICEF, Ford Foundation, European Union and other International Organizations.
The Centre for Economic and Social Studies (CESS) has been registered under Section 6(1) (a) of the foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act 1976 which enables the Centre to accept contributions from the external agencies for carrying out research work. The CESS has also been approved by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research Ministry of Science and Technology and the Director General of Income Tax (Exemptions), Calcutta under the rule 6 of the Income Tax Rules for the purpose of Section 35 (1) (iii) of the Income Tax Act 1961.
An entrance test will be conducted by the Centre for admission to the Ph.D Programme. Candidates who qualify in the entrance examination shall be called for an interview which will be conducted by the Centre. Candidates are required to submit a research proposal of about 1500 words describing their research problem, objectives, tentative data sources and methodology of research along with their application. The medium of examination for the Entrance Test shall be English only.
As per the UGC notification, the selection of candidates for the PhD programme will be based on an entrance test (70% weightage) followed by interview (30% weightage) of candidates who qualify in the entrance test.
Candidates for admission to the Ph.D programme should qualify and pass
Post-Graduate Degree with at least 55 percent marks or its equivalent Grade [50 percent marks for SC/ST/ Differently-Abled categories] in the concerned subject from any recognized university.

An M.Phil Degree in the subject concerned from any recognized university
OR
b) Candidates qualified in the National level tests in UGC-NET, for JRF, State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) or Candidates in UGC – FDP (Faculty Development Programme) and Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship holders.

-Total number of seats: 15 (The Centre reserves the right not to fill all the seats if suitable candidates are not found).
– Statutory reservations will be followed as per Government of Telangana norms.

Interview of shortlisted candidates: 31stAugust and 01st September 2019,10.00 a.m. onwards at CESS
Announcement of selection: 05th September 2019
