About IISc Bangalore Researcher Positions
Researcher Positions in Agent-based Travel Demand Modeling
Project description: The project involves development and implementation of large-scale, agent-based model systems for simulating mobility of people and goods, urban metabolism, and other social systems involving multi-scale networks (e.g., neighborhood-scale, city-scale, etc.). The initial focus will be on the development of agent-based (activity-based) travel demand models, relevant data collection, and interfacing with a software development team and stakeholder agencies to develop modeling tools for use by urban planning agencies. The long-term focus will involve integration with, or expansion toward agent-based simulation of a system of systems cutting across multiple domains (transportation, urban growth, energy consumption, pollution dispersion, etc.). The project is funded by the Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT) of the Government of Karnataka and Bosch Ltd., through the Foundation for Science Innovation and Development (FSID). IISc is leading the model development efforts, and Bosch Ltd. is leading software development. DULT is involved in model scoping guidance and assisting with gathering secondary data from public sector entities.
Ph.D. (or submitted Ph.D. thesis) or Master’s degree in any relevant domain, with a focus on one or more of the following topics: computational statistics (frequentist and/or Bayesian), statistical learning, network science, agent-based simulation, optimization.
* Expertise in agent-based modeling and simulation
* Prior experience in the development of agent-based simulation systems in any field – social sciences, transportation, urban systems, epidemiology, biology, etc. (application experience in the mobility/transportation domain is an advantage, but not required)
* Strong programming skills (Python, C++, databases, R)
* Ability to gather, process and analyze heterogeneous datasets
* Strong technical writing and communication skills
* Independent researchers who can lead project efforts and interact with external stakeholders
The selected candidates will be offered…
* One of the following positions: Research Scientist, Post-doctoral Research Associate, Project Associate, Project Scientist, JRF, SRF, etc. (based on qualification and experience) in FSID.
* Salary commensurate with qualification and experience, per IISc’s norms.
