Heritage Science and Technology (HST) globally deals with the techniques for analysis, conservation and development of heritage assets such as monuments and heritage structures. In the context of India, it also includes intangible heritage assets such as knowledge systems, traditional medicine and practices. Thus, HST encompasses the use of science and technology for the study, development and utilization of the heritage assets for the economic prosperity, health, well being of the society and to enhance the soft power of the nation.

PHD PROGRAM

The PhD program in Heritage Science and Technology envisages development of researchers that can apply methods from science and technology in aforementioned domains and undertake challenges for the benefit of the society. The program is designed to train candidates by a broad spectrum of course work in HST followed by research activity in diverse heritage domains.

RESEARCH AREAS

● Instrumentation and Analytics for Yoga
● Acoustics of instruments & Computational Music
● Indian language technologies – OCR for epigraphy/manuscriptology, Indian language Text-2-speech, Automatic Speech recognition, Natural language processing
● Heritage structures and conservation
● ML and data science for Heritage databases & Indian knowledge systems
● 5D immersive Human-Computer-Interfaces for heritage and tourism technologies

Eligibility criteria for application

1. M.Tech./M.E./M.Sc. (Engineering/Technology) degree in the respective or allied areas.

2. Candidates with B. Tech. degree or M.Sc. in an allied areas and having valid GATE score are also eligible to apply.

3. Candidates who have not yet finished their qualifying examinations can also be considered with marks upto 7th semester or 3rd year (whichever relevant).

4. Please note that only candidates meeting certain merit based criteria including but not limited to the marks in qualifying exam/previous degrees/previous experience etc. will be called for interview.
