A one-year Postdoctoral Fellow position with Dr. Utsav Mannu, Discipline of Earth Sciences, is available with a possibility of extension based on the candidate’s performance in the first year. The candidate is expected to carry out geophysical/geodynamic study of accretionary wedges/ fold and thrust belts.

Job Description:

The post-doctoral fellow will be required to design and conduct field/numerical/geophysical experiments to explore the thermomechanical structure, and evolution of accretionary wedges/ fold and thrust belts. The impact of surface processes, the frequency of landslides, thermal maturity variations, development of décollement, and seismogenesis in wedges could be the topic of the research. The candidate will have ample opportunity to learn and implement numerical geodynamic modeling that can be combined with field observations to validate one another. One of the primary objectives would be to bolster the current pool of numerical models either by establishing field geodynamic evidence that can be performed routinely or designing surface process(statistical/geodynamical) modules that can be integrated with the subsurface geodynamic evolution. The candidate is expected to be able to work independently and mentor Ph.D. students. Eligibility: Ph.D. in Earth Sciences/Physics/Mathematics with experience in fieldwork-related studies or with experience in finite-difference/finite element modeling or having a strong background in statistics and machine learning is desired. Candidates who have submitted their thesis in the mentioned fields are equally eligible.

Place of employment: Earth Science Discipline, IIT-Gandhinagar

Employment period: 12 months (with the possibility of extension)

Salary: Salary will be ₹ 50,000 + ₹10000 (HRA).
