Quantitative Life Sciences fellowship starting 2022

ICTP’s Quantitative Life Sciences (QLS) section seeks applications for a postdoctoral position starting spring/summer 2022 from outstanding young scientists of any nationality with a strong research record.

The QLS section provides a unique international research environment for postdoctoral fellows, with about 15 group members (faculty, postdocs, graduate students, and visitors), an intense programme of workshops and conferences, with a dense network of international research collaborations. The QLS section has expertise in a broad range of fields including theoretical ecology, biological physics, statistical physics of information processing, machine learning, statistical inference, stochastic processes, and stochastic thermodynamics. Postdoctoral fellows are encouraged and supported to participate in activities in developing countries in order to promote the mission of ICTP.

Candidates should have a background in statistical physics and/or applied mathematics, and be able to carry active multidisciplinary research in at least one of the following research areas: stochastic thermodynamics; stochastic processes in biological physics; statistical physics of information processing; thermodynamics of computation, learning and coding theory. Candidates with expertise in theoretical aspects, data analysis and numerical simulations are especially encouraged to apply.

The take-home monthly salary will be in the range of 2100 — 2300 EUR (depending on seniority). Benefits include health insurance, a pension contribution, and special allowances for family members. Appointments will be made for two years, with the possibility of renewal for one more year.
