About Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies Fellowships
The Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies was set up at the joint initiative of the Government of India, Department of culture, Ministry of Human Resource Development and the Government of West Bengal.
The Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies, Kolkata invites applications for award of Maulana Azad Fellowship (3 Fellowships) to senior and eminent academics and scholars in the field of humanities and social sciences. Interested candidates having outstanding contribution to research in the relevant field and publications to their credit may apply. They are expected to be persons of distinction with considerable record of publication and/or substantial experience in teaching and research.
Applicants already in service may apply through proper channel with a certificate from appropriate authority for leave during the period of Fellowship as it is mandatory that a Maulana Azad Fellow should be present at the Institute during the period of Fellowship.
Maulana Azad Fellows are expected to undertake a programme of research that will lead to a substantial publication at the end of their tenure. Maulana Azad Fellows are also required to give academic leadership to programs linked to the Institute’s main areas of interest – Asian affairs from the 19th century onwards with special emphasis on their links with India, and preferably working on Maulana Azad’s life, thought, political philosophy and his vision.
The duration of the Maulana Azad Fellowship is for three years with no provision for extension. The date of commencement of the Fellowship will begin when a Fellow submits a joining report to the Director, MAKAIAS. The Maulana Azad Fellowship provides a consolidated stipend of Rs.50,000.00 (Rupees Fifty thousand only) per month (Taxable).
Applicants for the Fellowships should submit their applications on plain paper, enclosing Curriculum Vitae as well as giving details of their outstanding contributions in research works and publications to their credit. A substantive research proposal should be submitted along with the application. Applications should reach the Director, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies, IB-166, Sector-III, Salt Lake City, Kolkata-700 106, on or before 9.3.2019 Applications received after the due date shall not be considered.
The Institute reserves the right to reject any or all the applications without assigning any reason whatsoever. The decision of the Selection Committee on the matter shall be final.
