About National Institute of Advanced Studies Bangalore Post-Doctoral Associates and Project Associates
National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS) was conceived and founded in 1988 by the late Mr. J.R. D. Tata, who sought to create an institution to conduct advanced multidisciplinary research. Housed in a picturesque green campus in Bangalore the Institute serves as a forum to bring together individuals from diverse intellectual backgrounds, in the natural and life sciences, humanities, social sciences, and conflict and security studies. The philosophy underlying NIAS is given shape by its multidisciplinary research teams. The Institute is unique in its integrated
approach to the study of intersections between science and technology, philosophy, social issues
and leadership. The objective is to nurture a broad base of scholars, managers and leaders who would respond to the complex challenges that face contemporary India and global society, with insight, sensitivity, confidence and dedication. For more details: www.nias.res.in
The Inequality and Human Development Programme explores the causes and consequences of ethically unacceptable differences. It expects this exploration to add to both academic and popular discourse so as to help identify effective policy interventions. It carries out projects on specific policy related issues that simultaneously help develop our understanding of not just what inequality is, but also what it does. The programme has just launched a set of five interrelated projects supported by Tata Consultancy Services; one each on inequality and development, intergenerational inequalities, inequalities of short-term migration and skill development, the digital divide and development, and inequalities in the effects of climate change on development.
The programme is now looking for Post-Doctoral Associates and Project Associates
Post-Doctoral Associates are expected to contribute substantially to one or more of the five projects listed above. They must be capable of working autonomously, and yet seamlessly, within the larger team associated with the five projects. They will have the specialized research tools to address the complex issues that will emerge in each project. They will be expected to involve themselves in all stages of the project from the formulation of the questions, the generation of empirical evidence, the analysis and conceptualization, and the writing of the final report.
Project Associates are expected to have a high degree of competence in one or more of three skills: secondary and survey data analysis, qualitative fieldwork, and editing and writing reports.
