About NIF Book Fellowships

Started in 2004, the core activity of the New India Foundation is the NIF Book Fellowships. The Book Fellowship is awarded to emerging and established writers working on topics that help create a more comprehensive picture of India post 1947.

The books published through the New India Fellowship span biographies to cultural histories to memoirs. While dealing in different geographies of India, the 35-plus books range from politics and law to environment and sports to gender and society to arts and culture. Each book is deeply reported, thoroughly edited and provides a vital perspective on modern India.

April 2027: Shortlist announcement

June 2027: In-person interviews

July 2027: Winner announcement
