About OUTRIGHT’S BEIJING+25 FELLOWSHIP
OutRight Action International is calling for expressions of interest from LGBTI human rights defenders from around the world who would be interested in participating in the various forums taking place around Beijing+25.
2020 marks the 25th Anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women and the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. The events taking place surrounding the anniversary provide a vital entry point in terms of LGBTI inclusion in line with the commitments made in Beijing in 1995.
Building on OutRight’s highly successful model to fight religiously-motivated homophobia and transphobia at the UN, the OutRight Religion Fellowship, we can offer now the opportunity for 8 LBTIQ Human Rights Defenders from the Global South and East to engage systematically around the many entry points into the international Beijing+25 process.
Guided and supported by OutRight’s UN-programme team, fellows will participate in direct and coordinated ways in 3 or more international advocacy activities planned, starting with the Commission on the Status of Women in 2020 and throughout the year, ending with the Commission on the Status of Women in 2021. Activities would include the 64th Commission on the Status of Women, the Generation Equality Forum in Mexico and France, the UN General Assembly Leaders Week, and AWID 2020.
Before the first meeting, CSW 2020, OutRight will organize trainings to strengthen the capacity of the Fellows and preparing them for the specific context of the Beijing +25 process and for the high-level speaking opportunities. They will also be included in preparation meetings with wider allied civil society to provide the opportunity to network with activists working in other relevant spaces such as women’s, environmental and labor rights.
Next to training and participation in the activities, the fellowship also includes a stipend for each fellow to help alleviate the burden on their organization of absorbing a new project or to take on any new activities that relate to the fellowship.
OutRight’s Beijing+25 Fellows should:
* Reside and work in Asia, Pacific, Africa, Middle East, Latin America or the Caribbean
* Can demonstrate an interest and track record in engagement and advocacy efforts in progressing LBTIQ rights
* Be available at the dates and committed to participate in the Beijing+25 high levels meetings
* Be fluent in written and spoken English
* Hold feminist values and apply an intersectional lens to advocacy
Women, trans, gender non-confirming and intersex human rights defenders are especially encouraged to apply.
To express your interest in this opportunity please fill out the following application before 09 December 2019. Selected candidates will be invited for an on-line interview.
