About G.P.Birla Educational Foundation – G. P. Birla Scholarship 2026-2027

The G P Birla Educational Foundation scholarship was established by Smt. Nirmala Birla to fulfil the vision of Shri G P Birla, a renowned industrialist and philanthropist who believed in empowering the youth of India through education and skill development. It is designed to support academically bright yet financially disadvantaged students, ensuring they have the resources to pursue higher education and build successful careers.

Enabling education

This scholarship is awarded to meritorious students from West Bengal and Jharkhand who have excelled in their Class XII examinations and require financial assistance to pursue their undergraduate degree courses in various disciplines. It covers fields such as Science, Commerce, Arts, Engineering, Medicine, Architecture, Law and professional courses like Chartered Accountancy, Company Secretaryship, and Cost Accountancy, provided they are pursued along with an undergraduate degree course in any recognized universities and institutions across India.

The scholarship offers financial support of up to ₹60,000 per year, which helps cover tuition fees, hostel fees (where applicable), and provides a one time book grant of ₹7,000 in the first year.

Selection process

The selection process is rigorous and impartial, ensuring that only students with exceptional academic merit and genuine financial need receive the scholarship. The program is overseen by a Selection Committee, which includes distinguished academicians such as Prof. Sumanta Basu from IIM Kolkata and Dr. Rajib Das from Jadavpur University, along with other invitee experts.

Renewal Process

Scholarship renewal will be based on academic performance and periodic reviews. Select students in their 2nd, 3rd and 4th years will be shortlisted for an interaction with the committee. Students are encouraged to maintain steady academic progress to continue benefiting from the Scholarship.

Eligibility

The G P Birla Educational Foundation Scholarship is awarded to meritorious students from West Bengal and Jharkhand, who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement in their Class XII examinations. The scholarship provides financial assistance for tuition fees and hostel fees (where applicable), enabling students to focus on their education without financial stress.

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must be domiciled from West Bengal or Jharkhand.
Applicants must have passed Class XII in 2026.
Minimum academic requirements:
85% or above in WBCHSE/JAC examinations.
90% or above in ISC/CBSE examinations.
Family income should not exceed ₹8,00,000 per year.

Exceptionally meritorious students may be considered even if the income limit exceeds the criteria, based on the Trustees’ discretion.

Students must be enrolled in an undergraduate degree course at a recognized university or institution in India.

Scholarship Benefits:

Covers college tuition fees and hostel fees (where applicable), subject to ceiling of ₹60,000/- per year.

An additional one time book grant of ₹7,000, in the first year.

Renewable annually, subject to the student’s satisfactory academic performance.

Support continues until the completion of the undergraduate course, for a maximum of four years.
