IBAB is a DIT – Govt, of India Center of Excellence for Research and Training in Bioinformatics

IBAB has moved to its own 20 acre campus in Electronics city with excellent infrastructure facilities, students’ hostel and other amenities. It has recently added several state of the art facilities for its bioinformatics and biotechnology laboratories to enhance its training and research capabilities. IBAB will shortly be hosting a Bio-IT center, a multi institutional public private partnership effort under the aegis of Department of Information Technology, Government of India, and Department of IT.BT and ST, Government of Karnataka, for setting up cutting edge platforms for genome sequencing and data analysis. The institute has also initiated its Ph.D. program affiliated to Manipal University.

IBAB has world class faculty trained from top-notch institutions with significant teaching and research experience. IBAB students are exposed to the most recent advancements in the biotech industry and research through the large number of scientists who visit IBAB ail year around from across the globe. The combination of teaching capacities, exposure to current research, focus on self-learning capacities, personality development and the modern facilities have helped IBAB to be among the very few Indian institutes which have achieved 100% placement record in the lifesciences sector.

Courses Offered

Postgraduate Diploma in Bioinformatics 18 Months (3 semesters including internship)

The course provides competence in computational biology / bioinformatics by training students in the areas of cell / molecular biology, computer science, statistics, chemistry and drug design. Related topics like IPR, entrepreneurship, clinical trials are also taught.

Eligiblity: Graduates/Postgraduates from Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Pharmacy, Medicine, Agriculture, Veterinary or any Lifescience discipline.

Postgraduate Diploma in Biotechniques 8/14 Months (Certificate / Diploma including internship)

The course creates dependable, all round laboratory professionals through extensive one-on-one training in laboratory techniques designed around recombinant DNA technology.

Eligiblity : M.Sc in any Lifescience discipline, B.Tech(Biotech)and MBBSstudents.

Postgraduate Diploma in Cheminformatics 18 Months (3 semesters including internship)

The course trains professionals for the exponentially growing and highly competitive drug and pharmaceutical market. Cheminformatics professionals have immense importance in the drug development process as they implement IT tools to replace traditional processes.

Eligiblity: Graduates / Postgraduates from any branch of Chemistry, Pharmacy, BE/B.Tech in Chemical Engineering.

Scholarships and Studentships: Merit scholarships and studentships, sponsored by Millipore, Sartorius, Strand Life Sciences, Accelrys,and Merck are offered at the beginning of the course to economically needy students.

Exemption from Entrance Test: Those who have cleared written tests of CSIR/ NET, llSc, AIIMS, GATE are exempted from entrance test but are to appear for interview at IBAB at a later date.
