Vidyanjali Scholarship Programme

Vidyanjali Scholarship Programme

About Vidyanjali Scholarship Programme

The Ministry of Education, Government of lndia has initiated Programme Vidyanjali to seek sponsorship support for enrolment of meritorious students lacking means into Higher Education lnstitutions (HEls). This initiative hopes to further the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020, which mandates equitable access to quality education for all and taking the current enrolme nt of 27% in Higher Education up to 50% by 2035. A Not-for-Profit company, the Vidyanjali Foundation, has been set up under section 8 of the Companies Act 1956 to address this in a focussed manner. The Foundation is a wholly owned subsidiary of Education Consultants for lndia Limited (EdClL), a 100% Central Government owned Public Sector ComPanY.

The primary objective of Vidyanjali scholarship initiative is to improve participation in Higher Education by creating access and opportunities for students with socio-economic constraints, ease their transition from Higher Secondary to Higher Education with informed choices of academic programmes which will enable them to compete by completing their chosen courses and rendering them employable in the future. Whilst there exist a range of scholarship program mes/schemes across Ministries, there is a need to further supplement the efforts. The Scholarship Programme Vidyanjali is an attempt in that direction

The Vidyanjali programme intends to garner assistance and funding from nongovernment partners and private sources such as CSR grants, national and international donors and impact investors. Therefore, this is a participatory call to action inviting lndia lnc to contribute and participate in this initiative for nation building, as joining constructive forces will not only bring in the private sector vigour but will help shape the outcome of the programme with speed and scale.

The beneficiaries of the Vidyanjali programme in its initial phase will be students of grades Xl &Xll studying in Navodaya Vidyalayas across the country. Students enrolled in Navodaya Vidyalayas are meritorious students who enter these fully residential Government schools through a highly competitive examination, most of whom are lacking means. Moreover, the presence of Navodaya Vidyalaya innearly all districts of the country would allow outreach under this progra mme to poor and meritorious students, mostly from rural areas all over the country.

The Vidyanjali programme has been meticulously designed to maintain complete transparency and to provide extensive ease to all stakeholders. A fintech platform has been specifically curated under Vidyanjali, and the sponsorship will be disbursed to students through this platform as Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).This platform will be instrumental in capturing data, receiving, hosting and viewing student applications, tracking student progress, tracking grant disbursement, monitoring fund utilisation, generating impact reports towards SDG realisation, individual mentions of notable student achievement and publicly acknowledging the support of the funders, among other platform utilities. The Ministry of Education is also engaginB with the National Scholarships Portal for Aadhaar based deduplication of bene{iciaries and Aadhaar Payments Bridge based DBT to the beneficiary account for greater transparency and proper utilisation of the CSR amounts meant for scholarships.

The brochure attached herewith provides all the details of this programme and the funder’s role in providing appropriate, meaningful, and impactful support. We shall be organising consultation with the help of Vidyanjali Foundation. We request your organisation to actively participate in this consultation, enabling us to collectively move towards a collaborative approach for solving our country’s education and employability challenge.
