National Fish Farmers Day is observed annually on 10 July to commemorate the successful induced breeding of Indian Major Carps by Dr. Hiralal Chaudhuri and Dr. K. H. Alikunhi in 1957—a landmark scientific achievement that revolutionized India’s aquaculture sector. India is one of the world’s leading fish-producing nations, and the fisheries sector plays a pivotal role in ensuring food and nutritional security, generating employment, enhancing exports, and supporting the livelihoods of millions of fishers and fish farmers. In recognition of this remarkable legacy, the Department of Fisheries in Collaboration with MyGov is launching a nationwide citizen engagement campaign to mark National Fish Farmers Day 2026. The campaign aims to raise awareness about fisheries and aquaculture, promote sustainable fishing practices, and highlight the invaluable contribution of fish farmers to India’s Blue Economy.

Objectives

​2. To inspire participants to creatively depict the journey of​ “Blue Economy for Viksit Bharat”

Technical Parameters ​

1.Each participant may submit only one original painting.​

2.The painting may be created using any traditional medium such as water colour, acrylic, oil, poster colours, crayons, pencil colours, charcoal, or mixed media.

3.The artwork should preferably be created on A3 or A4 size paper/canvas.

4.Entries must be submitted in JPEG (.jpg/.jpeg) or PNG (.png) format only.

5.Maximum file size: 10 MB.

6.Participants must submit a brief description (maximum 150 words) explaining the concept or message behind the artwork.

7.AI-generated, copied, or plagiarized artwork shall not be accepted.

Gratification

Top 30 best paintings to receive certificates from Department of Fisheries (DoF). Select entries may be showcased across D​epartment of Fisheries digital platforms, awareness campaigns, exhibitions, publications, and educational initiatives.​
