About – DISC Challenge

DISC Challenge is a pan-national competition for aspiring design students in India. It aims to encourage innovative and notable ideas that contribute to the creation of solutions specifically designed for the seniors. DISC intends to award well designed and practical solutions that augments the life of a senior addressing key issues and their everyday challenges. It endeavors to provide the creators and the innovators of today, a path to drive change in the world by breaking stereotypes, rewrite the story of age.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

1. Participant (s) should currently be an Indian resident (s)
2. Be enrolled in a full-time and/or part-time program at a recognized college and/or university in India at the time of application
3. The design concept (s) submitted for the DISC Challenge has to be specifically designed for the seniors.
4. In order to participate for the DISC Challenge, it is necessary to register on the portal.
5. Incomplete entries will not qualify and hence it will not be accepted.
6. For all categories, an individual or a team of participants (maximum 4) can apply.
7. An individual or a team of participants are allowed to submit multiple entries across all categories or in any one specific category.
8. Participant (s) are free to choose any subject for their concept as long as the ideas are significant, substantial, meaningful and connect to the theme: design for what matters.
9. The concept (s) submitted should represent innovation in design
10. The conceptual design (s) should be developed with user needs in mind.

SUBMISSION FORMAT

1. Title of the concept
2. One line caption / description of the concept
3. 150 words abstract of the Innovation and what is seeks to solve
4. 8 high resolution images, minimum 600 DPI, JPG/JPEG format, in different angles
5. Document limited to 1500 words, PDF Format only, under 8MB file size with an explanation of the key needs identified, Design brief, solution, features and other details as may deem fit. Key features of the concept and may include use case scenarios, product construction details etc for explanation.

DIGITAL AND ASSISTIVE INTERFACES
An application or a website that can provide easy navigation and the necessary content helpful for the senior citizens or specially abled

KITCHEN AND HOME PRODUCTS
Kitchen tools and home appliance modified or recreated for easier use

FASHION AND ASSISTIVE CLOTHING
Designing easy to wear, easy to maintain, and smart clothing to help the elderly and medical patients with style

FURNITURE
Modern furniture with out of the box features to assist in daily life

LIFESTYLE PRODUCTS
Designing a product that successfully inspires, guides or helps the user in their everyday lives

SAFETY
Devices that can assure safety to life or property by developing a groundbreaking design feature with utility

OPEN CATEGORY
A universal design that overlaps the above design categories, put together

AWARDS AND BENEFITS

One Awardworthy DISC Centurion receives Rs. 100,000/- honorarium for advancing his/her skills in service of Senior Care and two noteworthy DISC Jubilee members receive Rs. 25,000/- for launching their vision
