Title: Care, Conserve, Capture: An Earth Day Video Contest

Date: April 3 to April 22, 2017

We invite submission of high-quality video clips (duration: 60 to 90 seconds) capturing inspirational and educational stories of environmental protection and sustenance in Chennai.

Environmental themes may include (but not limited to) renewable/alternate Energy, environmental literacy, greening initiatives, water and waterbodies, and disaster management.

Entries should be submitted by email to amcongenchennaicontest@gmail.com by 1700 hrs on April 22, 2017.

The top three entries – selected by an eminent jury comprising environmental leaders, and documentary filmmakers – will be feted in a grand finale screening event and will receive exciting prizes.

The U.S. Consulate General in Chennai announces “Care, Conserve, Capture” a video contest to mark 2017 Earth Day. Details on eligibility, theme, and requirements are given below. Send in your entries and get a chance to win a prize! Good luck!

I. Contest Theme: “Care, Conserve, Capture: Inspiring stories on environmental protection”

Sub-themes:

* Renewable/Alternate Energy

* Environmental Literacy

* Greening Initiatives

* Water and waterbodies

* Disaster Management

II. How to Enter:

* The competition is open to the public ages 18 years and above. Participants may wish to form teams of maximum 3 members to submit a maximum of up to 2 entries per team.

* Videos must be sent via email to amcongenchennaicontest@gmail.com in mp4/mov format with the subject line “Earth Day Video Contest” along with personal details: name, age, mailing address, email id/s, telephone and/or mobile phone numbers.

* The videos have to be the original work by the participants.

* Videos in regional languages should be subtitled in English. All entries must have closed captions.

* All submissions become property of the U.S. Consulate General, Chennai and may be shown, streamed on the Internet, or otherwise used for programming purposes.

* The last day to submit the entries is 1700 hrs. on Saturday, April 22, 2017. Late entries will not be accepted.

* The contest results will be announced on Wednesday, April 26, 2017.

III. Content Requirements

All entries must be completely original. Images and audio clips must be original works. Do not use copyrighted material. Plagiarized entries will be disqualified.

Videos must be between 60-90 seconds long.

Videos cannot:

defame, misrepresent or contain disparaging images about other people or companies; communicate messages inconsistent with the positive images and/or goodwill of the U.S. Government; be in violation of any law or otherwise; be sexually explicit or suggestive, or derogatory of any ethnic, racial, gender, religious, professional or age group or the disabled, be profane; promote alcohol, illegal drugs, tobacco, firearms/weapons (or the use of any of the foregoing), any activities that may appear unsafe or dangerous, or any particular political agenda or message;

IV. Selection of Winners:

* Three winners will be selected by an eminent jury comprised of American officers of the U.S. Consulate General, Chennai and eminent filmmakers and environmental leaders. The videos will be judged on their creativity, content, message, presentation and visual impact. The decision of the judges will be final.

* Winners will be announced at the grand finale screening event on Wednesday, April 26, 2017.

Helpful Hints:

Rehearse- this will save you time in filming and editing, and will keep the whole process as smooth as possible.

Speak up- be sure that your voice is loud enough to register on the video.

Speak clearly- be sure that you are not speaking too fast, and that your words are easily understood on the video.

Watch your time- all videos must be 60- 90 seconds long.

Edit your final product.
