about  the CUTN

 

Government of India founded the Central University of Tamil Nadu, along with eight other Central Universities, through an Act of Parliament in 2009. It is part of the greater role that the Central Government assumed in making higher education accessible to aspirants from the weaker sections of the society. With eight students in M.A. English Studies, the university started functioning from November 2009, at the Collectorate Annexe at Thiruvarur, 60 kilometers to the east of Thanjavur. But today the University sits astride a major tributary of the famous Cauvery river in the heart of the Delta seven kilometers to the north-west of Thiruvarur.

Being the capital of the ancient dynasty of chozha, Thiruvarur was a town of great antiquity and a nursery for the traditional forms of dance and music. River Vettaaru runs between the Nagakudi campus which houses the faculty and staff quarters, guest house and Kendrya Vidyalaya on the north, and the Neelakudi campus with its lecture halls, library, laboratories, administration block, auditorium and students’ hostels on the south. Both campuses are nestled in a vast, verdant paddy tract, tucked far away from the madding crowds of urban sites.

General Category, 55% marks for OBC (Non-creamy layer) and 50% marks for SC/ST/PWD candidates. The students will undergo first three years of study at CUTN campus and the rest of the two years
either at CUTN campus or at MSE, Chennai as per their choice. The allotment of specialisation at MSE is based on their CGPA during the first three years of study at CUTN.

Ph.D Epidemiology & Public Health

The minimum academic qualification for admission to the Ph.D. programme is a second class Master’s or equivalent degree in the relevant subject awarded by a recognised university in India or abroad, with at least an average of 55 % of aggregate marks, or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed. Ph.D Tamil

A consistently good academic record possessing a Master’s Degree (two years duration) with a minimum of 55% marks [50% for OBC (Non-creamy layer) /SC/ST/PWD candidates] in Master’s degree in Tamil / equivalent subject in Tamil , preceded by a Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent Degree of three years duration from a recognized University.

****#All those candidates who are applying for admission into PhD programmes and have cleared National Level Fellowship Examinations i.e. UGC-JRF / UGC-CSIR-JRF have to apply through CUCET 2020 online portal and they are exempted from CUCET 2020 Entrance Exam. However, they have to appear for INTERVIEW. ONLY shortlisted candidates will be called for Interview. Some of the Departments may conduct Written test at the time of interview, if required. Preference will be given for candidates with JRF. Candidates claiming admission under OBC category should produce OBC-NCL (Non-Creamy Layer) as per Central government format. OBC certificate issued by the State Government format will not be accepted.

****#Candidates without National Level Fellowship, who appear in CUCET have to appear in the interview conducted by the department as per UGC2016 (M.Phil./Ph.D) Regulations.
