About American India Foundation William J. Clinton Fellowship

ABOUT US

The American India Foundation (AIF) is dedicated to catalyzing social and economic change in India and building a lasting bridge between the United States and India. Working closely with local communities, AIF partners with non-government organizations to develop and test innovative solutions, and with governments to create and scale sustainable impact. Founded in the wake of the Gujarat earthquake in 2001, at the initiative of President Bill Clinton following a suggestion from Prime Minister Vajpayee, AIF has impacted the lives of more than 4.6 million of India’s less fortunate and aims to reach 5 million by 2019. ABOUT THE FELLOWSHIP

AIF’s William J. Clinton Fellowship for Service in India is shaping the next generation of leaders committed to impactful change, while strengthening the pillars of civil society through cross-cultural partnerships to meet India’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Since 2001, the AIF Clinton Fellowship has been a strong model of SDG-17: Partnerships for the Goals. As we collectively strive for a more equitable society in our globalizing world, the importance of strong and respectful cross-cultural collaboration grows every day.

AIF’s Clinton Fellowship is an immersive volunteer service program preparing and dispatching young professionals to support development organizations in India. Fellows work on scalable and sustainable development projects for a period of 10 months from September to July. The AIF Clinton Fellowship selects and vets organizations from within AIF’s vast partner network to host a Fellow. Fellows support AIF’s partner organizations at a crucial moment of scalability by meeting their human resource and organizational needs. Together AIF, Fellows and host organizations form dynamic cross-cultural partnerships to exchange knowledge and skills, build capacity, and foster learning and collaboration to fulfill our joint commitment to improve the lives of India’s most marginalized communities. Through service and fieldwork, Fellows gain knowledge of inclusive leadership in development in the fields of education, livelihoods, and public health. Responsibilities vary based on the needs of AIF’s partner organizations, project goals, as well as Fellows’ skill sets and interests.
