Kutumb Vyavastha (family system) has been the mainstay of society in India that reflects in an array of values, ethics, privileges, practices, customs, rituals and duties, ensuring intrapersonal, interpersonal, communitarian, and societal cohesion through time and history. Family, in the nation, has not merely been understood as an economic or biological unit. Rooted in the principles of purushartha chatustaya (the four goals of life) and upheld through wider adoption of the knowledge texts such as Rigveda, Itiahasa-Purana, Brahmanas, Prasthanatrayi, Tamil Sangam literature, and the rich and diverse oral and written socio-cultural works in all languages of Bharat, the concept and real-life experiences of family have been imbibed by Indians since time immemorial.
