About ONGC Foundation Swacchta Fellowship program 2022

The ONGC Foundation Swacchta Fellowship program provides a unique opportunity for young leaders across India to work toward one of the most pressing challenges in India relating to “Hygiene and Sanitation”. The fellows will get an opportunity to work in the sector of ‘WASH’. The fellows will work as support to the organization in the actual field and work on the issues at the grass-root level. It is an opportunity for enthusiastic people, willing to work and contribute to society in the domain of sanitation.

ONGC Foundation with the help of ONGC had constructed more than 39,000 toilets as part of its CSR initiative. With the objective of resolving the issues related to “Water Sanitation and Hygiene”, in the FY 2017-18 alone, 21,372 IHHLs, community toilets, and school toilets were constructed in various districts across the country. Additionally, as a part of Swachh Vidyalaya Abhiyaan, ONGC constructed 7,958 toilets in 5,451 schools across 10 states of India. Since then ONGC Foundation has been striving toward making a proactive change in society in the domain of hygiene and healthcare.

The Swacchta fellowship program aims to empanel fellows to undertake the crucial work of repairing dysfunctional toilets that have earlier been constructed by ONGC with the help of ONGC Foundation and making them functional. The fellows will understand the ground realities relating to existing practices of using toilets and also towards sanitation and hygiene through this program. Fellows will be making instilling behavioral change toward the rudimentary approach of open defecation and will encourage them to use and maintain the toilets. They will also conduct awareness sessions with various stakeholders such as the school, student community, teachers, villagers, and district & block level administrative authorities regarding the importance of sanitation and its health benefits.

Objective :

The objective of ONGC Fellowship program is to create a cadre of visionary leaders. These leaders would be groomed to help and create an impact on society. With the proper guidance and training from ONGC Foundation, these fellows will ensure community ownership of the constructed toilets under the Swachh Bharat Mission and inculcate positive behaviour change to bring a sense of responsibility among people and the public authorities. They will create advocacy and awareness of the beneficiaries on the importance of sanitation and hygiene and be a part of a change.

In this view, 15 fellows will be engaged for a period of 12 months for supporting the work of the ONGC Foundation.

Key Features

* The fellowship will help to create awareness about the importance of hygiene and sanitation in everyone’s life.

* This program will contribute to the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s Swachh Bharat Mission.

* The fellows will learn about the importance of sanitation and Hygiene.

* Fellows will get a chance to work on the WASH program.

* The fellow will contribute toward behavioural change communication for using IHHL (Individual Household Latrine).

* The fellows will get hands-on experience with grassroots challenges and implementation modules which will help them in charting a worthy social work career.

* The Fellows will make a change at the grassroots level.

* Fellows are required to evaluate the need for groundwork, and prove support in research and development for better outcomes of the Swachhta Fellowship Program by the ONGC Foundation.
