Applications are invited from interested and eligible candidates for POST DOCTORAL FELLOWS in Zoological Survey of India in HQ, Kolkata and Regional Centres. The position is for a period of one year and purely on temporary basis and will be terminated or renewed based on performance.


Name of the Post : Post Doctoral Fellow (Post No.1 to 5 as per Remarks column)


Educational Qualification : M.Sc. in Zoology / Life Sciences / Natural Sciences (Biotechnology/ Bio-Informatics/ Forensic Sciences) and PhD or equivalent degree in Zoology/ Life Sciences from a recognized University from India and having 3 years of research/ teaching experience (duration of PhD to be considered as research experience) in a recognized Institution/ University after M.Sc. with at least two (2) research papers in Science Citation Indexed (SCI) journals


Desirable Qualification : Research experience in taxonomy, systematics, zoology or allied subject supported by publications, field survey experience in nature and wildlife, wildlife photography, knowledge of Computer, GIS and basic field data collection and statistical analysis, experience of molecular work evident by publications, expexrience on publication, review and editorial work


Remunerati on : Rs. 47,000/- + Admissible HRA (As per rules) per month, Rs. 49,000/- & Rs.54,000/- in subsequent years based on performance and recommendat ions of the committee.

Post Doctoral Fellows desired for

1. Taxonomic and ecological studies on Inhabiting Fauna – Earthworm & Oligochaeta
2. Taxonomic and ecological studies on Hymenoptera
3. Taxonomic and ecological studies on Invertebrates (other than Entomofauna)
4. Molecular Taxonomic studies (for NRC, ZSI, Dehradun)
5. Publication, review and editorial work of ZSI research work (for Publication Division of ZSI)


PDFs are expected to undertake extensive field surveys in the mountains, forests, wetlands and coastal and marine areas of India and therefore, required to be physically fit to undertake research in terrain and hostile conditions. PDFs may be require to survey in the Eco Sensitive Zones of India including North Eastern Regions, and will be posted in any regional


centres based on requirements. One PDF will be for taking care of DNA Laboratory of NRC, ZSI Dehradun and one for Publication Divison of ZSI HQ, Kolkata, for assisting the PPO in routine publication and production of ZSI research work


General Instructions:


1. The upper age limit for applying for award of PDF shall be 35 years as on 20th February 2020. Upper age limit is relaxed up to 5 years for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC-Non Creamy Layer (NCL)/Women/ Physically Challenged applicants.


2. Candidate will be shortlisted on the basis of their qualification and experience. Mere possession of qualification and experience may not entertain a candidate called for interview or selection. Although, there is indication for number of vacancy, the Director, ZSI reserve the rights for selection of any number of candidates.


3. Short listed candidates will be informed through email and speed post for appearing before an interview committee. A candidate called for interview will be paid Second Class Railway fares by the shortest route from his/her place of permanent residence to the place of interview and back. However, ZSI will not provide accommodation for candidates appearing for the interview.


4. At the time of the verification of original documents (even after selection), if it is found that an attempt has been made by the applicant to wilfully conceal, misrepresent or canvass the facts, such applicant will not be considered for selection and due action will be implemented.


5. Candidate selected will be liable to posted anywhere in the country, including field sites and HQ, regional centres of ZSI will have to join immediately after their selection.

7. Applications must be accompanied by a Fee in the form of an Account Payee Bank Demand Draft (Rs.400/- for general candidates, Rs. 200/- for OBC candidates and Rs.100/- for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes/PH candidates) in favour of the Pay and Accounts Officer (BSI/ZSI), 234/4, A.J.C. Bose Road, Nizam Palace Complex, Kolkata. Candidates should satisfy themselves that they fulfil all the eligibility norms including educational qualification(s) as on the date of submission of the application.


8. Candidates should submit the duly filled-in applications with attested true copies of testimonials of educational qualifications, research experience, proof for date of birth etc., along with copies of mark sheets of all examinations and ‘No Objection Certificate’ from present employer (if employed) to The Director, Zoological Survey of India, M-Block, New Alipore, Kolkata by Speed Post/Registered Post super scribed on the top of the envelope Application for POST DOCTORAL FELLOW (Post No…….) within one months from date of publication of the advertisement.


9. The Director, Zoological Survey of India reserves the right of selection or rejection of a candidature including cancellation of the advertisement.
