About The Admission

Call for Admissions for the academic year 2020-21.

M.Tech. in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) is awarded upon successful completion of a 4-semester broad-based academic programme, with specialization either in VLSI Systems, Networking and Communication, and Signal Processing. With the onset of a new wave of revolution being unleashed by the Internet of Things (IoT) due to the availability of extremely low cost and low power hardware platforms in the form of VLSI systems, we are seeing the emergence of a new convergence between hardware, communication, and signal processing. Its potential is limited only by human imagination and its impact is being seen in the rapid evolution it is fostering in different domains such as automation, e-health, mobile communication, smart home, automotive sector, consumer electronics, pervasive computing, computer architecture, etc. The new M. Tech. (ECE) program is being launched to meet the above vision and objectives.

Genesis

The genesis of this program is to help address the growth of the highly skilled manpower in Chip Design, Communication and networking protocols, and real time signal and image processing to support the development of electronics system in our country, in alignment with the national and state  policies to foster growth and entrepreneurship as outlined by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MIETY) of the Government of India, and the Government of Karnataka, respectively.

One emerging area where such skilled manpower will be needed in large numbers is in the domain of Internet of Things (IoTs) which is fostering a rapid revolution in different domains such as  industrial automation, e-health, mobile communication, smart homes, automotives, space, aviation, railways, agriculture, logistics, consumer electronics, pervasive computing, computer architecture and ambient intelligence.

Students in the first semester will choose courses worth of least 16 credits, from the following list of courses.

• Digital CMOS VLSI Design (4 Credits)
• Analog CMOS VLSI Design (4 Credits)
• Machine Learning (4 Credits)
• Mathematics for Machine Learning (4 Credits)
• Networking and Communication (4 Credits)
• System Software (2 Credits)
• System design with FPGA (2 Credits)
• Principles of Embedded Systems (2 Credits)

The students will choose 4 elective courses in each of second and third semester. The last semester will be Thesis/Internship. Depending on the elective courses students choose, M. Tech (ECE) students have the option to Specialize in one of the following areas,

• Theory and Systems for Computing and Data (TSCD)
• Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AIML)
• Networking and Communication (NC)
• VLSI Systems (VLSI)
• Digital Society (DT)

All students enrolled in the M.Tech program are residential, full-time students.

Selection Procedure: GATE SCORES
INTAKE: 30

In 2019, M.Tech. (ECE) admission offers were made up to GATE score of 670.

Candidates can apply online from March 20, 2020.

Eligibility

Minimum Requirements

The minimum qualification for admission to M.Tech ECE is 65% in four-year bachelor’s degree in engineering (i.e. B.E., B.Tech., or equivalent) in any one one of the following branches.

• Computer Science & Engineering
• Computer Engineering
• Electronics & Communication Engineering
• Electrical Engineering
• Instrumentation Engineering

Final-year students expecting to graduate by August 2020 may also apply.

• Selection Procedure

Admissions to the M.Tech. programme is on the basis of performance in the GATE examination. GATE scores (valid as of June 1, 2020) in  Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) will be considered for admission to M.Tech in ECE.

There is no fixed cut-off of GATE scores for admissions. In 2019, M.Tech. (ECE) admission offers were made up to GATE score of 670. The GATE score cut-off for 2020 will vary depending upon the actual applications received.

All applicants need to pay a non-refundable application fee of INR 1000/-.

• COURSE FEE

The students who are joining the programme in July 2020, will pay tuition fee Rs.1,60,000/- per semester. The total tuition fees for the entire duration of the programme (for students admitted in July 2020) will be Rs. 6,40,000/-.

In addition, students need to pay hostel and campus facility fee of Rs. 39,000 per semester and 25,800 per semester (last semester fees, likely to increase by 10% from July 2020) for catering and food services.

At the time of admission each student need to pay Library Deposit of INR 4,000/- and Caution Deposit for Hostel INR 15,000/-

These rates are subject to revision from time to time.

Other costs for books and supplies, travel, purchase of a laptop, etc. need to be factored by students depending on their individual circumstances.

• Scholarships

The Institute has offered about 8 scholarships (out of the 150+ students admitted in 2019) to meritorious students joining the M.Tech programme. The institute expects to offer a similar number of industry-funded scholarships in 2020 as well. The scholarship amount covers almost all student expenses over the duration of their M. Tech. The selection for these industry – sponsored scholarships is carried out by the industry representatives along with IIITB faculty coordinators.

In addition to the IIITB scholarships,  GATE-qualified students will be eligible for fellowships from AICTE as per AICTE norms. (across CSE and ECE)
