IIIT Ranchi Ph.D. Admissions 2020

1. ABOUT THE INSTITUTE

Indian Institute of Information Technology Ranchi is an autonomous institute setup by the MHRD, Government of India, and Government of Jharkhand along with the industry partners Tata Motors, TCS and CCL on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) in the year 2016.

MHRD, Government of India has taken up the initiative to setup 20 new Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) on a Public Private Partnership Model. A major objective in establishing IIITs is to set up a model of education which can produce best-in-class human resources in IT and harnessing the multi-dimensional facets of information technology in various domains. While the number of students produced by these IIITs would be small, the impact they create would be great. IIIT, Ranchi is determined to offer state-of-the-art facilities for advanced studies and research.

ADMISSION TO Ph.D. PROGRAMME

2.1 Applications are invited for admission to the Ph.D. programme at IIIT Ranchi Applications are invited for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programme beginning in Autumn 2020. The programme will be offered in Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) and Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE).

2.2 Admission categories and eligibility

The applications are invited under the below mentioned categories. All the applicants will be admitted only through the institute’s selection process. In general, the Selection Panel / Director can relax and/or set higher criteria for selection of suitable candidates.

Eligibility

FULL TIME RESEARCH SCHOLAR: An applicant who joins Ph.D. at IIIT Ranchi under this category gets financial assistantship from the Institute

Computer Science Engineering : –

1. M.Tech/B.E./B.Tech or equivalent in Computer Science and Engineering / Information Technology/ Software Engineering / Electronics and Communication / Telecommunication / Electronics and Instrumentation / Electronics / Electronics and Electrical with a consistently good academic record in relevant discipline. The candidate should have first division or equivalent in both Bachelor and Master degree. 2. Candidates seeking admission, should have valid score in GATE / UGC-NET / CSIR-NET (in Computer Science,

Electronics and Communication or related field) or completed M.Tech with Gate Score.

Electronics and Communication Engineering :-

1. M.Tech/B.E/B.Tech or equivalent in Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication, Electronics and Instrumentation / Electronics and Electrical, with a consistently good academic record in relevant discipline. The candidate should have first division or equivalent in both Bachelor and Master level degree.

2. Candidates seeking admission should have valid score in GATE/UGC-NET/CSIR-NET (in Computer Science, Electronics and Communication or related field) or completed M.Tech with Gate Score.

SELF FINANCED RESEARCH SCHOLARS (Full Time): An awardee of research fellowship from some recognized funding agency (CSIR/ UGC/ DAE/ NBHM/ DST/DBT/ ICAR/ ICMR/ ICPR etc.). They shall not receive any financial support from the institute in any form.

Computer Science Engineering

1. Applicants should have qualified CSIR/ UGC/ DAE/ NBHM/ DST/ DBT/ ICAR/ ICMR/ ICPR or secured funding from such an agency.

2. In addition to the above, the minimum educational qualification for admission is a M.Tech degree with a consistently good academic record in relevant discipline. The candidate should have first division or equivalent in both Bachelor and Master degree.

Electronics and communication Engineering

1. Applicants should have qualified CSIR/ UGC/ DAE/ NBHM/ DST/ DBT/ ICAR/ ICMR/ ICPR or secured funding from such an agency.

SPONSORED CATEGORY (Full time / Part time): An applicant of this category is sponsored by his/her employer.

For full-time sponsored candidate, the sponsoring organization must specifically undertake to relieve the applicant to enable residential requirements of the Ph.D. programme and also provide necessary facilities for carrying out the research. The sponsoring organization shall bear all expenditure towards tuition fees, institute fees, hostel fees, and any other expenses during the entire period of the Ph.D. programme. Those under this category shall work full time towards the Ph.D. programme. They shall not receive any financial support from the institute in any form.

For part-time sponsored candidate, a candidate is sponsored by a recognised R&D organisation, academic institution, governmental organisation or industry for doing PhD in the Institute on a Part-time basis. The applicant must be a regular employee of his/her organisation with at least two years of experience at the time of admission and be engaged in professional work in the discipline in which admission is sought. He/She will not receive any financial assistance/support from the Institute. A No Objection Certificate from the Head of the Institution/ Organisation in which he/she is employed must be enclosed at the time of application. These candidates should be able to attend regular examination as per the schedule of the Institute.

CSE and ECE

1. The minimum educational qualification for admission is a M.Tech degree with a consistently good academic record in relevant discipline.

Candidates, with four or more years of experience in relevant field after B.Tech/MCA with a consistently good academic record in relevant discipline, are also eligible for the application process

2. Applicant must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organization.

ON DEPUTATION (Full Time): This category refers to an applicant who is deputed from Government or academic institutions on study leave for a period not less than three years, extendable upto four years, for pursuing Ph.D. programme at the Institute. They shall not receive any financial support from the institute in any form.

CSE & ECE

1. The minimum educational qualification for admission is a B.Tech and/or M.Tech degree with a consistently good academic record in relevant discipline.

2. Applicants should have at least Six years of professional experience after his/her completion of B.Tech in the relevant field.

Applicants should have at least Four years of professional experience after his/her completion of M.Tech in the relevant field.

3. DURATION AND RESIDENCY PERIOD OF THE PROGRAMME

A. The minimum duration of the Ph.D. Programme (excluding dropped semester(s)/maternity leave) is 3 years (36 months) from the date of joining. B. All Ph.D. students have to stay within the campus during the entire period of Ph.D. programme. However, special permission, on a case to case basis, may be considered by the competent authority for staying outside the campus.

C. In general, Ph.D. students with Institute Scholarship can be away from the Institute only after pre-submission seminar. However, in exceptional cases, they may be permitted to leave the institute only after completion of course work. In such cases, Ph.D. category will be converted to another appropriate category, based on the eligibility. This will be based on Doctoral Scrutiny Committee (DSC) recommendation and with the approval of Chairman (Senate). This provision of conversion can be availed of only once during the programme.

D. The maximum period for completing the Ph.D. programme is 7 years (excluding maternity leave) from the date of admission. However, financial assistantship will be up to maximum three years (with possible extension of maximum one year after due review and
recommendation from supervisor) from the date of joining.

E. Semester drop is permitted up to two semesters in the entire duration of Ph.D. programme on bonafide grounds like medical, delay in getting relieving order from preceding organization or any other valid grounds based on DSC recommendation and approval of Competent authority. However, the maximum period of completing Ph.D. programme will remain unchanged.
