Institute invites applications for admission to Full-Time Ph.D. Programme in the areas as specified. The minimum eligibility requirement for admission to PhD programme is as follows:
o All applicants must have a valid GATE/NET (LS/JRF) score.
o For Engineering: Candidates must have first class in MTech/ MS/ ME or equivalent in CSE (Computer Science and Engineering)/ IT (Information Technology)/ ECE (Electronics and Communication Engineering), EEE (Electrical & Electronics Engineering) degrees with first division in relevant discipline in their BE/BTech.
o For Management: Candidates must have first class Masters Degree or its equivalent in any branch of Engineering/ Technology or Management. OR 1st class Masters Degree in Science, Computer Science, Operations Research, Commerce or Economics with Statistics or Mathematics as one of the courses at Undergraduate level.
o For Applied Sciences: Candidates must have first class Masters Degree in Physics/Mathematics/or any related branch of Physics/Mathematics.
o Relaxation will be given as per GoI norms. Indicative list of Broad Areas of Research:
o Engineering: Microelectronics/VLSI/Embedded Systems, Computer Architecture, Computer Vision, Algorithms, Image Processing, Robotics, Communication, Networks, Wireless Sensor Networks, IoT, Cyber Physical Systems, Mobile
Computing, Grid Computing, Information Security, Soft Computing, Data Mining, Machine Learning, Database/WEB/Multimedia Technologies, Distributed Computing, Analytics.
o Management: Operations, Marketing, Finance, Information Systems Management, Human Resource Management / Organization Behavior, Business Economics, eGovernance, Environment Management, Technology Management, Management of Informal Sector, Project Management, Entrepreneurship, International Business, System Dynamics, Business Analytics.
o Applied Sciences: Physics/Applied Physics/Material Science/ Nanotechnology/Computational Physics/ Fiber Optics/ Nano Electronics /Nanoelectronics/ Optoelectronics /Device Modelling/ Engineering Physics / Electronics/ Applied Mathematics / Operations Research/ Engineering Mathematics / Reliability / Applied Statistics / Soft Computing Applications / Optimization / Cryptography /Modeling and Simulation / Mathematical Biology.
Guidelines for Applying:
o Candidates are required to fill the online Application Form available on the Institute website www.iiitm.ac.in. It is NOT REQUIRED to send the forms by post.
o Application Fee of Rs. 500 (For Gen/OBC/EWS) and Rs 250 (for SC/ST/PH) should be submitted through online payment gateway available at Home Page of the Institute’s Website.
o Candidates must specify broad areas of research in the application form.
o Selection will be based on previous academic record and / or performance in written test/interview.
o The syllabus for the written examination is based on standard GATE syllabus. It is also available on the Institute website. Canvassing in any form will disqualify the candidate.
o Selection of Ph.D. Admission will be based on available Faculty Expertise.
o List of short-listed candidates for written test / interview will be posted on institute website. No separate intimation will be sent to the applicants.
o Mentioned qualification is indicative of eligibility criteria. The shortlisting criteria may be higher depending upon the number of applications.
o The candidates are required to visit institute website regularly to know more about the updates, fee structure/faculty expertise etc.
o Candidate must upload scanned copy of the NET/GATE score card along with online application, failing which the candidature may be rejected. Assistantship & Accommodation:
o The selected candidates shall be entitled for assistantship as per GoI norms. o This programme being residential the Ph.D. scholars will be provided accommodation in hostels as per Institute norms. A limited number of married accommodation is also available for the married candidates.
o The short listed candidates may be required to stay on both days for written test and interview
Discrete Mathematics: Propositional and first order logic. Sets, relations, functions, partial orders and lattices. Groups. Graphs: connectivity, matching, coloring. Combinatorics: counting, recurrence relations, generating functions. Linear Algebra: Matrices, determinants, system of linear equations, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, LU decomposition. Calculus: Limits, continuity and differentiability. Maxima and minima. Mean value theorem. Integration. Probability: Random variables. Uniform, normal, exponential, Poisson and binomial distributions. Mean, median, mode and standard deviation. Conditional probability and Bayes theorem. Computer Science and Information Technology
Boolean algebra. Combinational and sequential circuits. Minimization. Number representations and computer arithmetic (fixed and floating point).
Machine instructions and addressing modes. ALU, data‐path and control unit. Instruction pipelining. Memory hierarchy: cache, main memory and secondary storage; I/O interface (interrupt and DMA mode).
Programming in C. Recursion. Arrays, stacks, queues, linked lists, trees, binary search trees, binary heaps, graphs.
Searching, sorting, hashing. Asymptotic worst case time and space complexity. Algorithm design techniques: greedy, dynamic programming and divide‐and‐conquer. Graph search, minimum spanning trees, shortest paths.
Regular expressions and finite automata. Context-free grammars and push-down automata.Regular and contex-free languages, pumping lemma. Turing machines and undecidability.
Lexical analysis, parsing, syntax-directed translation. Runtime environments. Intermediate code generation.
Processes, threads, inter‐process communication, concurrency and synchronization. Deadlock. CPU scheduling. Memory management and virtual memory. File systems.
R‐model. Relational model: relational algebra, tuple calculus, SQL. Integrity constraints, normal forms. File organization, indexing (e.g., B and B+ trees). Transactions and concurrency control.
Concept of layering. LAN technologies (Ethernet). Flow and error control techniques, switching.IPv4/IPv6, routers and routing algorithms (distance vector, link state). TCP/UDP and sockets, congestion control. Application layer protocols (DNS, SMTP, POP, FTP, HTTP). Basics of WiFi. Network security: authentication, basics of public key and private key cryptography, digital signatures and certificates, firewalls.
