Applications are invited any time from eligible candidates for admission to Ph.D. and M.S. (by Research) programmes under regular/part-time/external schemes of IIT Madras. Half-Time Research Assistantship (HTRA) funded by MHRD as well as fellowships from other funding agencies like CSIR, UGC, DST, ICMR, AICTE etc. are available for those who have qualified for these schemes. Shortlisted candidates will be called for “test and interview” or “interview” by the Selection Committees of the respective departments from time to time. Ph.D. / Direct Ph.D. / M.S. (by Research) ADMISSION @ IIT MADRAS FOR 2019-20 THROUGH “ANYTIME ADMISSION MODE”

Candidates who have completed their U.G/P.G degree may apply now against “Anytime Admission Mode” for admission to M.S./Ph.D./Direct Ph.D. programme throughout the year.

Candidates who are in their final semester/year of their U.G/P.G degree may apply now against “Anytime Admission Mode” for admission to M.S. / Ph.D. / Direct Ph.D. programme throughout the year.

Please make sure to see the eligibility criteria in the admission brochure (SI. No. 4, 5 & 6 in Page No. 8 – 18) before applying.

Candidates applying under External category for research programme may confirm whether the current organization/industry/institution in which you are working is having R & D recognition from IIT Madras or else certified by DST / DSIR. Click here for more details.

Candidates applying under Part-time category for research programme may confirm whether the current organization/industry/institution in which you are working is situated within commutable distance from IIT Madras.

For candidates applying under various categories of Research admission which requires sufficient work experience, the experience will be reckoned based on the last date for submission of online application. The work experience acquired after completion of the qualifying degree (i.e. U.G/P.G degree as per eligibility criteria) will be only considered as valid.

Candidates can apply to pursue Direct Ph.D. programme in Engineering/Sciences/Management/Humanities & Social Sciences stream after their Bachelor’s Degree. For more details including eligibility criteria for applying to Direct Ph.D. programme, refer the Research Admission Brochure [S.No.5.1.2]. Meritorious M.S scholars under Engineering/Management stream with minimum CGPA of 8.0 are eligible to upgrade to the Ph.D. programme in the same department and will receive two degrees (M.S.+Ph.D.) on completion of the programme.

GENERAL POINTS TO BE NOTED

Candidates are instructed to confirm whether they are fulfilling the eligibility criteria as provided in the research admission brochure & website before applying to Research programme. For registering your application, create a new account or login into your existing account, then fill the necessary fields & upload the relevant documents in the application form and pay the requisite application fee to complete the application process.

Candidates who wish to apply to multiple department(s) or research programme(s) should register individual application and pay the application fee separately subject to fulfilling the eligibility criteria for applying to the concerned department/research programme as mentioned in the research admission brochure & website.

Candidates possessing multiple UG degree(s), PG degree(s), and qualified in multiple National/International Level Exam(s) which is tenable for the current period of admission and who wish to apply to various research programme(s)/department(s) should register separate applications with their each qualification individually and pay the application fee separately subject to fulfilling the eligibility criteria for applying to the concerned department/research programme as mentioned in the research admission brochure & website.
