About IIT Mandi

IIT Mandi seeks applications from bright and dedicated young scholars interested in joining the full-time or part-time M.S./Ph.D. program in the School of Computing and Electrical Engineering (SCEE). For this purpose, SCEE seeks applications for the Master of Science (M.S) By Research and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programs in the following areas:

1. Computer Science (Data Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision, Theoretical Computer Science, Algorithms and Data Structures, Compilers and Programming Languages, Distributed Algorithms, Image Processing, Internet of Things,
Computer Graphics)
2. Power Electronics and Drives
3. Power Systems
4. Signal Processing and Communication (Information Theory, Signal Processing,Wireless Communications and Networking)
5. VLSI (Analog and Mixed Signal VLSI design, Arithmetic Circuits, VLSI Technology and design)

Please indicate on the application form whether you want to apply for the M.S. program or the Ph.D. program or both.

A candidate can appear in the selection for at most 2 areas out of the 5 areas above. Only the first two choices in the online form will be considered. Please select the preferred options while filling the online form.

MS/PhD Eligibility & minimum Qualifications

Master of Science (M.S. by research) in Engineering:

Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology or Masters degree in appropriate Sciences (M.Sc) with valid score in GATE/NET or equivalent national level examination in appropriate discipline or GRE score (only for NRI/Foreign Candidates).
or
Candidates having Associate Membership of the following professional bodies are also eligible for admission to the M.S. by research program of their parent discipline provided they have a valid GATE score and have passed both part A and part B of the Membership examinations with a good academic record. These are: The Institution of Engineers (India), (Electrical and Electronics, Electronics and communications), The Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering and other professional bodies approved by the Senate from time to time.

Ph.D. in Engineering

Candidates with a Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology with a good academic record or a Master’s degree by Research in Engineering/ Technology disciplines, with a good academic record.

Candidates with Master’s degree in Sciences with a good academic record and of exceptional merit with a valid GATE score or UGC/CSIR-JRF/ NBHM or equivalent qualification in the relevant area tenable for the year of registration. In the case of candidates with more than 5 years of relevant experience after the Master’s degree, the requirement of a test score may be waived by the Selection Committee.

Candidates who have qualified for the award of Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology with exceptionally good academic record in an eligible discipline will be considered for direct admission to Ph.D. Program as a regular full time scholar subject to the following conditions:

(I) B.Tech degree from one of the IITs, with a minimum CGPA of 8.0 on a 10.0 point scale.
(II) Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/ Technology from any other University should be among the top 5% or 20 rank holders, declared by the University and having a valid GATE score.
(III) Bachelor’s degree holder in Engineering/ Technology, serving for two years or more in a reputed R & D organization or Industry with a proven research record.
