About the PhD Programme Admission

IIIT Kottayam invites applications for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme starting in July 2020. The following areas in which these programmes will be offered are:

Computer Science and Engineering: Data Mining, Big Data analytics, Social network analysis, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Cloud Computing, IoT, HPC, Green Computing, Information Retrieval, Graph Algorithms, Parallel Computing, Financial Engineering etc.
Mathematics: Fractional Partial Differential Equation, Analytical Methods

Applications are invited for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme starting in July 2020. The following areas in which these programmes will be offered are:

Categories of PhD Students :

- i) SCHOLARSHIP HOLDERS (FULL-TIME)

A candidate who is having INSPIRE/ CSIR/UGC/NBHM can apply for full-time Ph.D programme. Such candidate receives assistantship or fellowship from concerned funding agencies. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student except teaching assistantship to a limited number, on a case to case/need basis. Sponsorship letter must be attached with the application.

- ii) SPONSORED (FULL-TIME)

A candidate in this category is sponsored by a recognized R&D organization, academic institution, government organization or industry or QIP candidates for doing research in the Institute on a full-time basis. The candidate must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organization with at least one year of professional experience in the respective field. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student except teaching assistantship to a limited number on case to case/need basis. Sponsorship letter must be attached with the application.

- iii) SELF-FINANCED (FULL-TIME)

A candidate in this category works full-time towards the PhD Programme. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student except teaching assistantship to a limited number, on a case to case/need basis.

- iv) PART-TIME

A candidate in this category must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organization with at least one year of professional experience in the respective field and who can pursue the PhD Programme at IIIT Kottayam while continuing the duties of his/her service at the parent organisation. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a candidate. Sponsorship letter in the prescribed format must be attached with the application

Eligibility Criteria for Admission into PhD Programme

Minimum CGPA or Percentage of marks in the qualifying degree, with specific requirements has been indicated below:
For admission to the PhD Programme, a candidate must satisfy one of the following criteria:

- i) Master’s degree in Computer Engineering/ Information Technology/Computer Science/Computer Applications/Mathematics or equivalent area with a minimum Cumulative Grade point average (CGPA) of either 6.0 in a 10-point scale or 60% of marks.
- ii) Four-year Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering/Information Technology or equivalent in a relevant area from any National Institute of Importance (like IIT’s, NIT’s, IIIT’s etc) with a minimum CGPA of either 7.0 in a 10-point scale or 70% of marks. Such students will be awarded both MS and PhD degree on completion of PhD Programme without any exit option during the programme.

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS FOR CANDIDATES STILL TO APPEAR IN QUALIFYING EXAMINATIONS

Candidates still to appear in their qualifying degree examinations may also apply, provided they appear in all their qualifying degree examinations and complete all requirements for their degrees before 01-07-2020. If selected, such candidates shall be admitted provisionally, and they will have to furnish the results of their qualifying degree examinations latest by 31-08-2020. Further, they must fulfil the minimum requirements of marks/CGPA, and other conditions like valid INSPIRE/CSIR/UGC/NBHM fellowship (as may be applicable) as mentioned under eligibility criteria for respective programmes. Failure to fulfil any of these requirements shall automatically result in cancellation of admission.

APPLICATION FEE

An application fee of Rs.1000/- for general/OBC and Rs 500/- for SC/ST/PWD/Female candidates will have to be paid through State Bank Collect.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Selection of the candidate will be based on test/interview. Appearing for test/interview does not entitle for admission of the Ph.D. programme.
