About NIT Silchar

National Institute of Technology Silchar was established in 1967 as a Regional Engineering College in Assam, India. In 2002 it was upgraded to the status of National Institute of Technology
and was declared as Institute of National Importance under NIT Act, 2007. NIT Silchar has six engineering degree offering branches and five non-engineering branches. NIT Silchar offers B.Tech., M.Tech. and PhD degrees. NIT Silchar secured 9th position according to NIRF2020 among all the NITs and is also placed in 801-1000 group in the recent THE ranking.

About Department of Civil Engineering

The Department of Civil Engineering started its journey in 1977. Ever since the inception, it has been imparting quality education to under graduate students. The Department presently fosters five PG courses. A good number of PhD research scholars are carrying out research works in various fields. There are about a dozen laboratories with various research and testing facilities. The faculty consists of eminent specialists from diverse fields and there is commendable research ambience in the Department.

About the Workshop

The primary objective of DSD&SSI-2020 is to bring together all the professionals from academic institutions, professional bodies and research scholars to enhance their knowledge on recent advancement in numerical and experimental works on structural dynamics, vibration control, vibro-acoustics, composite structures integrated with smart materials, structural health monitoring and dynamics of soil-structure interactions. In conformity of the same, this workshop will share the knowledge on different themes of the workshop and to extend the service to the society in the direction of sharing the practical knowledge in the design and construction of modern lightweight structures and highrise buildings, bridges, etc., on different types of soil and also to mitigate the disaster due to external harsh environmental conditions. Moreover, DSD&SSI-2020 aims to extend the research scope in the field of structural dynamics and control of lightweight and modern structures with existing expertise and facilities of the Department of Civil Engineering at NIT Silchar in collaboration with other reputed institutes, organizations and industries

Objective of the Workshop

• To provide the concepts and principles on structural dynamics and vibration mitigation of lightweight structures as well as modern high-rise structures and their interactions with surrounding soil.
• To provide the numerical and experimental developments in the field of structural health monitoring, composite structures, smart materials, vibro-acoustics, noise control, etc.
• To inculcate the design aspects and further research perspectives in the field of structural dynamics and soil-structure interaction.
