About ICTS & TIFR : Joint Ph.D. Program in Maths
TIFR CAM and ICTS invite applications from highly motivated candidates interested in pursuing doctoral research in Mathematics. For current research topics, please click here (ICTS) and here (CAM). The students will receive a degree through the Mathematics Subject Board of the Graduate School of TIFR.
All applicants are required to appear for national level entrance tests (TIFR graduate studies admission test, GATE, UGC/CSIR test for JRF) conducted at different centres nationally. These entrance tests will cover basic topics in mathematics, applied mathematics or engineering. Top candidates from these tests can apply to appear in the next phase of the selection process. Performance in the national level entrance test, along with the additional information requested in the online application form will be used to shortlist candidates for interviews conducted at ICTS for CAM-ICTS Joint PhD Program in Mathematics.
Students selected for regular PhD (M.A./M.Sc./M.Tech./ME) need to complete the coursework requirements and register for a PhD within 2 years of joining. At the end of the coursework, the student needs to pass a comprehensive exam after which he/she can register for a PhD. The details of graduate course work can be found here (ICTS) and here (CAM). Please find the first-year course structure here. The second-year is more flexible where the students can do courses/ projects according to their interests. Some of the courses in the second year could be in IISc too. Successful candidates will receive a degree through the Mathematics Subject Board of the TIFR Graduate School.
For students whose final examination results for their qualifying degree are not declared by the time of joining (approximately end July/ beginning August): you will be admitted on a provisional basis, subject to the passing of the relevant degree examination. The admission will be regularised on the production of mark sheets/provisional/final degree certificate of the qualifying degree examination.
If your qualifying degree is a Master’s degree (and you already have a Bachelor’s degree): Payment of fellowship will be at a lower rate (IPhD) until documentary evidence is submitted of having completed the qualifying degree.
Once the admission is regularised, arrears corresponding to the full amount of fellowship will be paid calculated from the date of joining.
Referee deadline : April 20th, 2021
