Gates Millennium Scholarship Program
The Gates Millennium Scholarship program is sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and administered by the
United Negro College Fund. Nomination by a professional educator (principal, teacher, guidance counselor, etc.) is required. The focus of this program is on students who will be pursuing careers in mathematics, science, engineering, education or library science. Candidates must be African America, American Indian/Alaskan Native, Asian Pacific Islander American, or Hispanic American, a US citizen or permanent resident/national, have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale, and be entering a US accredited college or university as a full-time degree-seeking freshman in the fall. Candidates must also be eligible for the Federal Pell Grant. Nominations must be submitted by early to mid January. Applications must be submitted by February 1. Gates Millennium Scholarship program is a generous offer for minorities. 1,000 scholarships were awarded for 2005/2006. It is open to all U.S. residents who fall into one of these categories:
African American
American Indian/Alaska Native
Asian Pacific Islander American
Hispanic American
Additional requirements:
You must have a GPA between 3.3 and 4.0, and have demonstrated leadership qualities.
