Applications are invited for one Birbal Sahni Research Associateship and three Birbal Sahni Research Scholarships tenable at the Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeobotany, Lucknow.

Birbal Sahni Research Associateship:

M. Sc in Geology/Botany with high academic attainments both at graduate and postgraduate levels. Three years research experience in appropriate discipline OR Ph. D in appropriate discipline. Candidates with M. Sc (Geology) should have Botany at graduation level. Similarly those with M. Sc (Botany) should have Geology at graduation level, as desirable qualifications.

Relevant Disciplines:

Marine Micropalaeobotany, industrial Palynology (Fossil Fuel Exploration)

Age Limit:

32 years as on April 01, 2007. A relaxation of age-limit up to 3 years may be considered by the competent authority in the case of applicant show are suitably qualified and have research training/teaching experience in relevant discipline. In the case of applicants of Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe/Other Backward Classes, age relaxation up to 5 years may be allowed.

Birbal Sahni Research Scholarships:

M. Sc n Geology/Botany with high academic attainments both at graduate and postgraduate levels. Candidates with M. Sc (Geology) should have Botany at graduation level. Similarly, those with M. Sc (Botany) should have Geology at graduation level, as desirable qualification.

Relevant Disciplines:

Mesozoic ? Cenozoic Palynology, marine Micropalaeobotany, Industrial Palynology (Fossil Fuel Exploration).

Age Limit:

28 years as on April 01, 2007, A relaxation of age-limit up to 3 years may be considered by the competent authority in the case of applicants who are suitably qualified and have research training/teaching experience in relevant discipline. In the case of applicants of Scheduled Caste. Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe/Other Backward Classes, age relaxation up to 5 years may be allowed.

General Conditions:

1. The tenure of Birbal Sahni Research Associateship is three years. The Research Associates shall be entitled to a sum of Rs.11000/- p.m. during first year, a sum of Rs.11,500/- during the second year and Rs.12, 000/- during the third year after reviewing his/her performance for the preceding two years by a committee constituted by the Director. The tenure of eh Birbal Sahni Research Scholarship is two years. The Research Scholars shall be entitled to a scholarship amount of Rs.8000/- p.m. during the first and the second year. After the period of two years, the progress report of the Research Scholars will be assessed along with publications/accepted research papers, research reports, etc y a Committee constituted by the Director. If found satisfactory, the Research Scholars may be allowed to continue for the third year with the scholarship amount of Rs.9000/- p.m.

2. Only the Indian citizens normally residing in India are eligible for Research Associateship/ Research Scholarships.

3. Mere fulfilling of the minimum advertised qualification and experience requirements do not automatically entitle an applicant to be called for test and /or interview.

4. All the applications received within the due date in response to this advertisement shall be considered for short-listing by a Screening Committee and only the candidates recommended by the Screening Committee will be called for test and/or interview. The decision of the Institute on short-listing will be final and the Institute will not entertain any correspondence in this respect.

5. The award of Assistantship/ Scholarship shall not imply any assurance or guarantee for subsequent employment at the Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeobotany, Lucknow.

6. Usual infrastructure facilities for research purpose will be provided by the Institute. The nomination of the Supervisor and Co-Supervisor (if need be) for Birbal Sahni Research Scholars and the placement of the Birbal Sahni Research Scholars and Birbal Sahni Research Associate in various Projects/Departments will be made by the Director.

7. HRA and medical benefits may be allowed as per the staff Rules of the Institute.

8. No Research Associate/Research Scholar will be allowed to discontinue his / her scholarship without prior approval of Institute.

9. Each Research Associate/Research Scholar will have to sign an agreement along with the terms and conditions with the Institute for the award of Birbal Sahni Research Associateship/Birbal Sahni Research Scholarship to him/her before joining.
