AWARD OF DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS 2004-2005
The Indian council of Social Science Research, an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, invites applications for doctoral fellowships for the year 2004-2005 in the prescribed format as given below.
A.CENTRALLY ADMINISTERED DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS

2. North-East Region : 15
The broad disciplines recognised for such support are : Economics, Commerce, Education, Management, Business Administration, Psychology, Political Science, International Relations, Public Administration, Sociology, Social Work, Criminology and Social Science aspects of Anthropology, Demography, Geography, Law and Linguistics.
The priority areas for consideration are : Health, Education, Environment and Sustainable Development, Information / Communication Technology, Library Science, Gender Studies, Centre-State relations and National Security.
Centrally Administered Doctoral Fellowships are awarded by the ICSSR on the basis of selection through an interview to be held at the office of the ICSSR, New Delhi and also at our North-Eastern Regional Centre, Shillong.
B.INSTITUTIONAL DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS

These fellowships are located at the following ICSSR funded Research Institutes and they are also awarded on the basis of selection through an interview but these interviews are held at the Institute concerned. The number of fellowships allocated to individual institute is also indicated in brackets against each.Applicants interested under this category may send their applications directly to the Directors ofthe concerned institutes

Eligibility
1. Postgraduate in Social Sciences with at least 55% marks.
2. The candidates should have cleared National Eligibility Test(NET) for JRF / Lecturership or completed M.Phil or have two years esearch experience ( a certificate to this effect to be attached from the concerned authority) or have at least two articles (reprints to be attached) published in professional journals in Social Science.
3. The applicants for Centrally Administered must be registered for Ph.D . Those who are not registered need not apply.
4. For Institutional Fellowships, the candidate whether registered or not may apply. They will have to be registered/Re-registered as the case may be with one of the faculty members of the respective institutes.
Age : The upper age limit for a doctoral fellow is below 35 years as on 01.07.2004 (relaxable by 5 years in case of SC/ST). In exceptional cases, where a candidate is found to have outstanding ability, the age limit may be relaxed marginally at the discretion of ICSSR.
Value : The selected candidate will be paid a fellowship amount of Rs.6,000/- per month for two years, extendable by one year inexceptional cases only, plus Rs12,000/- oer annum as contingency grant.
In case of an employed scholar his/her salary will be protected. In addition, a contingency grant of Rs.12,000/- per annum will also be paid.Duration of a salary protected fellowship will be for two years only.
Short listed candidates will be called for interview and all those who are not in receipt of call letters, need not unnecessarily correspond.
